In Star Wars Ahsoka we FINALLY have a live action thrawn played by Lars Mikkelson, but his performance among other things...IDK it seems to leave a lot to be desired.

His posture is wrong as well, he would be more commanding if he stood with a straight spine like the cartoon one does.

All characters are as expressive as Plank from Ed Edd and Eddy

One of the biggest problems is the eyes. They just look so terrible, without the fluid, dark red, and glowing look that they had in other material. It made him seem intelligent and frightening

Part of the reason for the lack of expression could be that they told him to be wooden on purpose so that they could do digital touch-up in post. That's part of the reason that digitally de-aged or resurrected characters end up with an uncanny valley sense to them. The actors, or stand-ins are told to be wooden and unexpressive to make it easier for the digital effects to do the touch-ups. You might think that it's just blue body paint and contacts, and for the most part, it probably is. But it feels like there's non-zero amounts of digital trickery to the character design too.

I think the uniform is messed up on purpose at least, : the collar is frayed, the front is matted/wrinkled in places to show that the 9 years have really taken its toll? I do agree with the other concerns raised in this assessment however. I'm old enough to remember the original Timothy Zahn books coming out and to finally see a live action version of Thrawn I was ultimately like "okay, sure" but wasn't blown away.

Never thought Thrawn would look like a blue Elon Musk...

I think Benedict Cumberbatch would have been a better choice, he has the lean mean look and the right voice.

If you look at recent photos of Lars Mikkelsen, he's actually pretty slim. I have a feeling his belly was just one of the details they added to show the ragged shape of the ship and crew. Even his uniform had some stitching and was hardly in the pristine condition you would imagine when they were in the Empire.

I have to point to plot problems… little things like… we have established light sabers cannot cut Mando armor, yet we see Asoka doing so in the dream flashback…Thrawn is looking for Ezra to kill him, or can just leave because he says it doesn’t matter. If Thrawn says it doesn’t matter WHY would he then spend time on a thing? The whole bringing Sabine for a plan that doesn’t matter is ridiculous. To say nothing of giving her weapons when they let her go… calling Purrgil space whales would be a kin to calling an eagle an Air bird…there are many MANY other problems

I don't care that human doesn't look like a cartoon

I never once imagined Thrawn being stooped and paunchy. Like, tell the actor to hit a gym a few months before filming.

He looks markedly less intimidating that he is depicted in the various Legends sources

The broken Japanese Tea bowl looking Stormtroopers are all reanimated dead people I presume.

I can agree with most of what you say. However, consider this. Like many comments below...Thrawn is getting up there in years! So's his uniform. You can only press fabric so long before it loses the ability to remain taught. The fibers break down etc. Thrawn's losing his hair due to aging and plus what he's been through. First thing to go and the fitness. Maybe due to some war wounds he's unable to keep up his martial regimen of fitness. He's along ways from home and it's pointless to keep up an appearance; when your thoughts are simply on survival of himself, his ship and crew. You got it! I think that the actor matches the state Thrawn finds himself in. Now he can start to "think" about what he's going to do based upon the fact that he's returning to the Galaxy Star Wars finds itself in. But great thoughts all.
