The .45ACP is what the military started using because of that particular war.

Never forget that it was a one-armed FBI agent with a .38 that ended the Miami Shootout.

People don’t give .38 Special enough credit. They call it the ‘manstopper’ for a reason.

No joke. The most accurate handgun I've ever owned was a S&W Model 10 in .38 Special. Great cartridge.

My first gun was a 357 mag that would also shoot 38 special rounds. That little snubnose was a great introduction for me into the world of responsibile gun ownership.

I carry a S&W .38 Airweight. i have several Sigs but the snub nose is easy to drop in my pocket with a holster so it is the one I carry. If you leave it at home is does you no good if you need it. Get something you will carry consistantly.

I bought a COLT Police Positive .38 special and I can agree it is solid. Definitely my backup piece of choice

At my core, I am sold on the .45 ACP. However, I have aged (imagine that!) and I retired and no longer wear an open sidearm. So I carry a six shot .38 Special with a +p loaded round. I don't plan on running off either a Huk death squad or an entire chapter of Hell's Angels, but it will likely handle what problems I face.

Alot of people underestimate the humble 38, but its a great cartridge. May not be the fastest or the hardest hitting but it's reliable as hell and very accurate for what it is. Its awesome little woods cartridge, ive personally have takin squirrels, rabbits, opossum, raccoons and coyotes with a one. Ive even seen some guys take deer with the little guy, in my opinion if its good enough for the woods it's good enough in town.

I have several guns, but it's my S&W model 10 38sp that is at my bed side.

Served L.E. longer than any other cartridge

I knew a guy who was a New York City cop, carried a beautiful S&W 38 special. I'm sure it has a few notches in the handle.

It was/is about the most powerful gun the average under trained Officer can handle. Hard to break. Easy to teach. Yes, I was an Officer for 35 years

The reason why it failed is because it was under powered of course but also it was ineffective because the enemy would wrap their torso in tightly woven fibers and charge the soliders. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The old .36 Patterson colt started the journey of which the .38special would one day, play a part. Sleek and quick to hand the .36 cap& balls lacked the power to get the job done but was fast. Wasn't till the .357 made such a small piece a man-stopper.
