Brian has become my "go to" for almost everything in RC planes. I am disappointed when I can't find a plane I want to buy or update or learn almost anything on RC planes. The most detailed information out there. Thank you for all of your help. I wish I had found you sooner!

Thank you again for the thorough explanations. I installed my flaps yesterday. The radio setup on thee NX8 was a bit different from what you showed, but your guidance helped immensely in deciphering the Spektrum manual. There was no mystery at all in coordinating the flap and elevator deployment speed. The Flap System control page is awesome. After getting the servo and switch assigned correctly everything else can be done from that page. The position of the servo/switch is controlled by a value, -100 to 100, for both ends and the center position. What I found is that I could “reverse” the servo just by swapping the sign in the endpoints. The elevator position was similarly easy to set and so after experimenting and finding that positive values deflected pitch down, I set those to a conservative 10% (half flaps) and 20%. When the winds calm I’ll test and adjust those for perfect balance.

I watched you theorize a way to get elevator deployment to synchronize (time delay) with the flaps. I know you have an NX8 now so switch to that and there is nothing extra needed. When you set the elevator deflection in the Flap System page the timing is handled for you. My flaps and elevator deploy at the same speed. Perfect!

Why 4 seconds? I timed the flap deployment on my Cirrus and found it is about 2 seconds to go from none to half, and another 2 to go from half to full. When I had a 185 I always deployed the flaps with some finesse (hand operated flap lever). Flap deployment and retraction initiate significant pitch diversions. Rapid flap deployment near the runway would likely result in some dangerous excursions. Rapid flap retraction at low speeds can cause an immediate stall, with no warning buffet. Below 1, 000 feet (real airplane) that is deadly. So the long and short of it is I want the little model to behave well, like a real airplane. Are you also a pilot or student pilot?

Thanks for the video Brian. I just received my Cub and wanted to set up the flaps. Your "how to" video will make this a WHOLE lot easier. And I am a noobie, with some experience on a park flyer mini.

Brian thanks for showing this plane off, I bought this plane after I bought the T-28 because I was too worried to fly the T-28 and wreck it. This plane is a breeze to fly, but the wing creates so much lift it becomes difficult to land it in safe when there is wind, you don’t have enough down elevator to overcome the lift. It’s so confidence inspiring that I’ve actually been practicing flying without safe more and more. I figure a couple dozen more flights with this plane and I’ll celebrate with the maiden flight of the T-28. Thanks again for bringing all the excellent content and making it so exciting to watch. You and the camera crew Keep up the great work!

Just so you know, these are the only videos, over 1 hour, on YouTube, that not only do I watch, but rewatch.

I was watching some Trent Palmer videos this afternoon and installing a flap servo on my Cub came to mind. Perfect!

Always find myself subconsciously always making sure throttle cut is on! Partly due to you I’d imagine. Great video as always.

Seen MANY of your vids since bein stuck @ home for a few days. Thanks! Believe this has gotten me back after getting out of R/C since 96 (started w/a Kyosho Wildcat buggy in '83). This model is what I've decided to go w/ to return...

Awesome little plane. Even for an experienced pilot like myself this would be a nice relaxing flyer. I would even add that landing sensor because I love the technology. One doesn't really need flaps, but it was a good idea to enable them anyway. Thanks for your reviews.

Hello Brian and Mrs Megan aka camera crew, as always well done. Love the carbon cub. Its an everyday flyer. Flaps make the plane different on flying. Thanks for the video keep flying you guys. Just having fun RC'n with friends and family members

Great video, Brian. I knew you'd love the flaps on that thing. The flare is a little sluggish with the flaps when you're landing, so I upped my elevator throw and problem solved. I noticed you were greasing your landings at the end. Well done.. Now that's how you keep your pants on!

Thanks for the video! I’ve been wanting flaps on the cub because we had a spare servo, but I thought it wouldn’t work with the dxs. But thanks to this video I now have flaps on the cub using the dxs

Just completed my maiden flight. Was pretty nervous but the flap install is a game changer. Makes take off and landing so much easier and slows it down in the air. Perfect for beginners. Got the bug now! Thank you so much for the videos. Flaps work fine with the RTF transmitter included.

Hello Brian, I'm glad that you have installed flaps on this plane. Listening to your in-flight commentary, you use flaps more than anybody else that is flying. So, it is very good for you to have them. I got to say, this plane is very good looking. Not as sexy as a P-51 1700mm, but a looker none the less. " Hey! "

Good video! When you know the instructions can't be right, its great to have a video of someone who knows what they're doing, to reference!
Also great that this RTF plane came with an option that once installed, practically shouts that you now have a good excuse to go buy a fancier transmitter! 🙂

Thanks for the detailed install especially using the servo tester to position the flaps. Other videos do not come close.
