Given the spectacular achievements of modernity, it seems as if we are superior to the people of the past in every imaginable way - but is that really true? While it's true that the ancients didn't have smartphones, cars, or computers, that doesn't mean that hundreds of years ago inventions didn't see the light of day that were every bit as good as their more modern counterparts. But that's not all: some old technology turns out to be so complex that scientists have still not succeeded in uncovering its true background. It's clearly a bicycle. I think just it wasn't known to everybody else that it was invented in the 1900's doesn't meant that somebody else from elsewhere couldn't have gotten the idea to invent something. I we clearly don't like walking everywhere. So it's not impossible to believe bicyles were around even further in history, probably just very few of them.

I liked everything. I have already heard about several of the topics, but I particularly liked the automatons. Beautifully made and wonderful that they survived. Amazing that we could regfrigerate without electricity (very topical in view of current price hikes) and the water supply system was brilliant. We seem to be learning the wrong things at school.
