The Avro Vulcan was one of the three British aircraft types that were known as V bombers (the other two being Handley-Page Victor and Vickers Valiant). The Avro Vulcan was developed as a strategic bomber, and was part of the United Kingdom's airborne nuclear deterrent. The Avro Vulcan also served in a conventional capacity, and flew combat missions in the Falkland war in 1982.

I think the RAF should have bought way more Vulcans than buy the Handley-Page Victor. The Vulcan proved to be a surprisingly capable bomber once the early wing troubles were overcome with the B.2 model, and if they had modernized the plane with Rolls-Royce Tay turbofans and an all-new digital cockpit for a three man crew, the Vulcan would likely still be operational in 2024 as a stand-off bomber platform.
