A cat shelter in Chicago is selling feral cats for up to $600 to combat Chicago's rat problem, which is believed to be the worst in the country.

lived in a cheap apt during college. very infested with rats. after trying all kinds of traps, i managed to coax a stray cat in with a bowl of milk. the cat wasn't very friendly, but he (she?) turned out to be one helluva a mouse-catching machine.
one moment he'd be sleeping on top of my VCR (remember those?), then in an instant spring into action, curl its back, hiss and in a blur seemed to pull a mouse out of thin air. he'd then torture the bejeezus out of the mouse, showing off his various foosball moves, and it's like they somehow both agree it's game over time and proceeded to eat the mouse, making loud crunch sounds until he finally slurps the tail. 20 years later, i still miss that cat. he was a lousy companion, but magnificent at his job.

My neighbors have rats. I don’t because i feed and place outdoor warming houses out for the feral cats.
