My head canon has always been that the dragon ball timeline splits after buu is defeated and every named series are alternate timeline from different meta universes. Goku going with Uub is one constant amongst the universes but the way to get there and the powers acquired along the way differs.

It actually does kinda fit because remember ssj4 can’t be unlocked by will and had to be unlocked by Neva, Goku knew he can be stronger but he didn’t know that he can’t unlock it by will. And Goku during the beginning of super said that Ssj3 is his strongest form because he knew he wouldn’t unlock the form again without neva

Well, if you rehear what he said, he said he was training for the form. So that doesnt imply that he ever obtained it. So, with that in mind, he would still have to say that SS3 was his peak form at the time.

As much as i love ssj4, i wish they would let SSJ3 marinate a little. We barely get any action with it then the form becomes obsolete when a new form swings around.
Let SSJ3 be the peak form for a while. Or at least let us see it more.
