Guys, we are STARTING to see the light at the end of the tunnel in terms of our massive winter to-do list!!! Our beautiful boat Penelope is looking better by the week, and we are preparing emotionally and physically for the voyage ahead as much as possible. We've recently started working on projects separately which has also sped things up a bit, and it's always really fun to see what the other person has done at the end of the day : )

Cheers,
Lou

You know what I really admire about this channel and the two of you is that it’s just about living creatively. It sounds so obvious when I write that, but I just had this realisation that there isn’t any pressure to make huge changes in my life - to go buy a boat or a van (although those adventures looked incredible) it’s just as much about the small things. My living creatively might look totally different to somebody else’s creative. And that’s okay. More than okay, I feel like that is celebrated on this channel. And I really love that.

I really love how you two prioritize taking breaks and ending early to enjoy your evenings together. The worst part of American grind/hustle culture is the pressure to constantly push through to the point of exhaustion, and its so great to see you actively resist that and create a healthy work/life balance.

As a tip because zippers can be tricky, install the zippers on the side pieces BEFORE sewing it all together. Makes life way easier!

This video reeeeally made me understand why you chose to spend a couple of months working on the boat, rather than sailing on it. It's going to be so beautiful and comfortable.

Well, I consider myself an experienced sewist, but I learned something new! Have never heard of a hot knife and will be looking into that!

Lou, before you remove the plumbing under the sink (if it's not already too late) make sure you research it. I believe a certain amount of extra tubing is required so when you heel over, sea water doesn't come into your sink. Be VERY careful about that...

I’d seam rip all the cushion covers and use them as a pattern...saves a huge amount of time and you know for sure each piece is perfect including seam allowances. Three years of home economics in high school👍👍👍👍

When I watch you guys it reconnects me with something inside that I've always had. An industrious spirit, a creative mind and and a willingness to just do what I can with what I have. It really helps me just get unstuck from this mindset that "the going is so slow because of my ADHD and my autism" and "I'll never get anywhere, I'm already too old" and instead just gets me ready to instead just be in the moment and thankful for the little things. Yeah. <3

Next time just seam-rip the existing fabric from the cushion and use it as a pattern for your new fabric. It’s much easier to use it as a guide instead of having to go through the trouble of doing all the math.

it is so impressive what you have gotten done, bravo from your fans in CT. The boat is shaping up and the cushion looks amazing--that was one big roll of fabric, can't wait to see what they send you for zippers. Loved the video, felt like I was right there with you! Love you guys!!!!

Tip to keep a dry bunk. Moisture collects under the cushion while you sleep. You will be amazed at the amount of water that collects there. The cushion and sheets will be saturated if you don't take precautions. You can buy a "marine" product that are plastic grid squares with 1/2 inch holes. Cost a bunch with the name "Marine" on it. Better to go to Home Depot/ Lowe's and look for shop/kitchen flooring. Plastic squares with 1/2 inch holes (like lattice) for a LOT cheaper. You only need them for the area under your trunk but we used them to our feet. Allows the air to circulate and moisture drops away from bedding. Black mold will show up under the cushion if you don't watch for it. Over the years I have seen many cruising couples fail. Mostly because they were not best friends. One woman told me she could not stand to be around her husband that much. You guys should do just fine. My wife and I lived aboard for about 7 years. Today we spend most of the day in the same room in our house. We just prefer it that way.

You're cutting the fabric on the bias instead of with the grain. You're going to get stretchy flowy diamonds like a Vionnet dress. The lines of the plaid have to go straight up and down even though the new fabric is plain. You two are ever so goosey goosey good!
