Please note that to claim that money you will need teceipts as that amount is excessive and they want proof. The picture of luggage tip is smart.

Put your clothes in an IKEA Dimpa bag inside your suitcase.
Have an inventory of everything you pack & the replacement cost.
Have adequate travel insurance.
Make sure your contact details & flight details are in the DIMPA bag & case.
Carry a role of gaffer tape.

We just had an incident here at HNL just two weeks ago in which a Canadian that came in on an (AC)Air Canada flight was informed that his bags were lost and that it might take a couple of weeks to return them to his home. He then told AC than his luggage was here and no more than 500 feet away. They then asked how he could possibly know that and he showed them on his iphone were his luggage was. Turns out that his luggage was just sitting out on the tarmac under a jet next to the one he came in on and was headed to Vancouver.
Of course, you can buy new shirts and shorts here in Honolulu but why go through that hassle. 🧐

If you pop a starter pistol in your checked bag you can now declare you’ve got a firearm. And guess what? Airlines won’t lose that bag!

THANK YOU SO MUCH! Needed now, and sure wish I'd known this a year ago when my bag was delayed and later came to me damaged.

The last time I flew it was with Eastern. So you know that was a long time ago. I had a flight from Tampa to Providence with a stop I think in Atlanta but I can't remember. I checked my bag. There was no plane change. I simply stopped then took off again 45 minutes later.

When I got to Providence there was no bag. After two hours and talking to two Eastern employees, it was obvious I was not getting my bag that night. I was gold to call them in the morning and they would know something. So I did and they told me they weren't sure how but my bag ended up in Chicago. My guess is they unloaded it by mistake in Atlanta and some how it got rerouted. So they said they were putting it on a plane for Providence and I could call them the next day and they would confirm the arrival and I cold then go pick it up. The next day I called and was told it was in Dallas in the custody of another airline. Went through the same thing and the next day found out it was in San Diego, then the next day Miami then the next day Seattle then the next day New York and I got hopeful that being so close to Providence they might get it to Providence but instead it went to Baltimore then Boston, also close to Providence then oddly enough Worcester then Buffalo then San Francisco then Honolulu then Houston then Atlanta then Tampa and when it got to Tampa I said to just keep it there and I'd pick it up on my return flight. So my two week vacation was over and I was wearing borrowed and purchased clothes and returned to Tampa where the Eastern employee says to me "Good news sir, your bag just arrived in Providence!" So I had my family pick up my bag in Providence and ship it to me via UPS and three weeks later it was at my door. I still don't know how it got covered with white paint though.
