Network media types refer to the physical means used to transmit data between devices in a network. There are several types of network media, including copper, fiber optic, and wireless. Copper media, such as twisted pair and coaxial cables, are commonly used for LANs and provide reliable and inexpensive connectivity. Fiber optic cables, on the other hand, offer higher bandwidth and longer distances but are more expensive. Wireless media, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular networks, provide mobility and flexibility but may have limited range and security concerns.

In the CompTIA Network+ (N10-008) certification exam, candidates are expected to have a good understanding of different network media types, their characteristics, and how they impact network performance, speed, distance, and security. Candidates should also be familiar with various network media connectors, such as RJ-45, BNC, ST, and SC, and understand how to troubleshoot and repair network media issues.
