We’ve recently got the 1.5TSI (V2) as our main family car and we absolutely love it thus far. Does everything well and looks superb!

I’ve been running a PHEV one of these since July 2021. I’m still looking at it proudly.

You’ve hit the nail on the head, Mark. I’d only replace it with the 1.5 TSi.

I absolutely LOVE my 221 1.5TSI with the upgraded alloys, dark camo paint and interior leather seats. It’s an absolute ‘looker’ and with just over 13.6K kms (I know not huge) but I’m averaging about 7.8lts/100kms. Only major “issue” is the error on the wireless charging spot, but that’s it!! Love it!

I have driven the PHEV version for about a year now and there seems to be a bit of confusion here about the consumption calculations. With a fully charged battery, driving in hybrid mode I get an average fuel consumption of 4 liters with combined highway/city driving in Germany for about 200km before the battery gets empty. If you would drive fully electric, about 20kWh per 100km. On an empty battery, I get about 5-6 liters per 100km, it will intermittently charge the battery a bit so you still have the boost.

Also a point to note if you want an automatic 1.5TSI it works out about 250€ less than the PHEV, for residual alone i chose the PHEV

Have averaged 67MPG over 7000KM of driving in my PHEV Formentor

Great car to drive, could do with a bit more traction off the line as the wheels are very easily to spin

Very happy with the car

I got the 1.5 dsg and get 40mpg urban and 50 - 56 mpg motorway at 60 mph, if you get lucky enough to travel with no traffic, it goes into eco mode automatically and turns 2 cylinders off the engine.

I have a vz1 hybrid 245bhp. 2 years now and i will only be changing it for another one. My only issue is the infotainment system rebooting all the time.

CUPRA FORMENTOR ESTATE 1.4 EHYBRID 245 VZ1 or MERCEDES-BENZ GLA HATCHBACK
GLA 250E AMG LINE EXECUTIVE, my work scheme has both these cars similarly priced. I currently drive the A Class 250e, great interior however the engine interaction with the electric motor is very clunky so not sure to go with a GLA or try something new like the Formentor.

Traded in a 2021 Golf for this last January when they had deals on. 1.5tsi petrol i went for as the extar 7k wasnt justified for me in terms of fuel savings. I have upgraded alloys and the premium Dark Camo paint too ... I have 14k km in the year inc a 1040km round trip around the North recently from where i live on south coast and it was so comfortable, . Its good at everything without being amazing and thats all you want. I often look at it and think, its still some car like you said. I normally change cars every 3 or 4 years but first car in a long time I haven't even thought about changing yet or seen one nicer or better .. The charger error message and the voice control constantly comes on after 12 months but not end of the world or else I am getting used to it :)

I’ve got the Formentor 2.0 TSI VZ2 310ps and yes it is expensive, just paid £600 to tax it for 12 months (Ouch !) but it is worth it for the performance.

I would go for pure petrol, the Formentor VZ 4Drive.

Must admit as we can't get the diesel in the North the 1.5 TSI would be my preferred option and indeed I'm very tempted into buying the Octavia sportline 1.5 based upon your review alone and this is coming from me with a diesel Kadjar as you know. Problem is the Octavia sportline isn't coming into the north until March of next year so I think you guys have got them before us and as we can't get the diesel Cupra it could be a straight fight between the Cupra 1.5 and the Octavia 1.5 sportline because you see I'm looking for something with a manual gearbox which both cars can be had with. Realistically it'll be next year before I can make any moves on either and I think for my needs the Octavia sportline possibly in estate form could be the one for me as I need to be able to carry my bike inside it and tho' I know I could do that in the hatchback I know the estate would do it no bother tho I prefer the look of the hatchback Octavia but we'll see. The badge of the Cupra still reminds me of the Decepticon logo from the Transformers! 😂

Nobby, what would be a better PHEV around the same value, at the moment on the irish market? In your opinion obviously

So do I understand that you can NOT recharge the battery while driving (like you can with Toyota)? I’ve been mulling over this car because the RAV4 waiting list is about a year, just as expensive but a lot more ugly! Thank you for the review.

4:45 Edit: Sorry, I didn’t catch that the first time. So you can charge the battery whilst driving, at least a little bit.

Would you recommend it for a family with 2 kids? In terms of space? I was thinking of the 1.5 TSI version. Really nice looking car

Had mine for 4000 miles. Getting 38mpg! Filling small tank every day. Not impressed. Style over substance.

Hesitating between Formentor and Octavia RS or Sportline Estate, what you think?
