I tested the saran-wrap-covered trap version of the trap vs this version with NO COVER on top. To my surprise, the open-top trap VASTLY OUTPERFORMED the saran-wrap-with holes top! Both worked, but the one with no top killed more fruit flies, by a margin of almost 2 to 1. I used glass jars ACV mixed 1:1 with water, a teaspoon of dish soap, and added a teaspoon of sugar to the mix. I think the dish soap is the key that kills the flies, essential makes the water's surface "fruit fly quicksand" by reducing the surface tension. Yeah, so a few flies escape out the top, but apparently they come back for 2nds and 3rds and eventually the quicksand sucks them in.

Juice is expensive. Just use apple cider vinegar and sugar with soap.

I needed this because I do not have apple cider vinegar! Thank you!

A friend who works in restaurants swears by red wine vinegar and dawn dish soap. The dish soap coats their wings and keeps them from flying out.

Haha. My dad would probably pick it up and drink it without asking why it was there. Surprise!

Important to not skip the soap! I had a neighbor that put out only apple cider vinegar out as their trap. They weren't aware it was simply feeding them and attracting more. So many when they opened their door, a bunch would get in the hall.

Also… apple cider vinegar and liquid soap work well, too. 👍👍👍

I put creamer in my coffee (usually French vanilla or hazelnut) and more often than not when I stumble across my ice cold mostly gone cup later in the day there is fruit flies in it…not sure what’s attracting them but it seems to work.

I’ve tried the juice/ACV and dish soap many times and get a few stragglers but never added extra sugar…will try. I’ve tried upside down funnels, plastic wrap XYZ ABC and can’t ever seem to catch all of them.

I actually spray any type of cleaner in my toilet bowl and leave the seat up and having a bathroom lite on all night I think helps draw them and I find little flies in the water every time I use the toilet.
As a bonus it keeps a clean smell and cleans the bowl

I use a few drops of Dawn dishwashing soap and water. Works great for me.

Nice!!! Love these tips!

I also bought all the products you sell on your site! They are all amazing! I love the waffle towels and I love the floor cleaning system (the mop thing with the blue floor towels that stick on)

I would love to have the option to buy the waffle towel in black and white!!

Thanks!

I need something to prevent them from even coming lol. For example in the trash, is there something you can add to repel them somehow?

It's early December and ice cold outside. There is also a layer of snow on the ground. I'm supposed to be living alone, but I have been dealing with lots of tiny flies for months. They don't pay rent. They don't help me with the chores. They just breed replacements, go after my food when I am prepping and eating it, and occasionally one will bite me. I've been using fly strips placed near the kitchen garbage can. The strips get some, but not all of them. They are annoying the H out of me. I'm going to give this a try soon. I have a fancy bottle of grape juice I'm saving for around Christmas, but I also have several cans of pears in juice. Once I finish eating a batch of cooked carrots I will be opening a can of pears. I'll use the juice to make this cocktail for my unwelcome guests. 😁 Drink hearty, you pests!

I wonder, maybe I could just use my dish soap without juice, as it's citrus scented. If I warm up the water a little bit in the microwave oven before adding the sugar, then the sugar should dissolve better.

Thanks for this post! I'd really like to finally get rid of these pests!
