Yes! All week, I have had these fruit flies. They got in through a rotten potato. I didn't have cantaloupe, but I had a strawberry and a dollop of plum jam. I caught three fruit flies in less than 10 minutes. It works that fast. Thank you! ❤

A few drops of liquid dish soap breaks the surface tension of the vinegar and they immediately sink.

it works even better if u add a little soap to the liquid. or the best ive found is getting sticky fly paper and putting it in a disposable cup and also cover the top almost totally with the sticky paper so the sticky is onthe inside. just a sliver at the side open for them to get in. that worked by far the best for me. and even better if i also put sticky paper facing upwards as well on top of the a piece of rottig fruit in the cup. i tried so many different methods to see what worked the best.

I use apple cider vinegar and a big drop of honey, it works really good aswell.
With fruit its better, but i had issues with mold and "odor" and my health isnt that good so i stopped doing that.

Thank you Gary! This was the very worst year yet! I'll be trying this tomrrow after harvesting the rest of my San Marzano's!

I tried the clove and bay leaf spray method and it does keep the fruit flies AWAY, but it doesn't kill them, so they come back after a few days and the dark liquid stains surfaces. I also tried the apple cider plus dish washing soap method, but the fruit flies don't seem to be interested in the trap at all. This is what I'm trying next!

I add soap and a little juice of some kind AND the ultimate is a fungus gnat sticky trap on top instead of Saran Wrap

Great video Gary! I do exactly this except i use sugar or golden syrup as i personally find the fruit starts to smell as it goes off.

You can also make your own apple cider vinegar with apple peels and cores. Place in a jar big enough for the apple pieces and cover with water. Then add a tablespoon of sugar, mix and cover with a bit of cloth and hold in place with an elastic band so it can breathe and "burp". In about 30 days you can start using it. You might find that it forms a white film on the top, which is normal and you can just scrap it off and throw away. I wouldn't recommend it for cooking but it is great for making fly traps in ramekins or for cleaning glass, etc.

Great video and info Gary. I live in zone 6A. I have grown peppers in containers. Should I continue giving them WS fertilizer ? When should I stop? Please advice. Thanks

Yes they were pain this year. Always ruining my harvest. This week, I’m doing similar and it’s been so much better. Took 1 gallon container, with rotten food at the bottom, then every morning, I close the lid quick. That traps all the flies in it. Then take it outside and open the lid. And again repeat the same. 2 days, no signs of fruit flies.

I have had a lot of fruit flies this year. What works for me is to have a shallow bowl and put some regular vinegar in it and add a little sugar to it and the next morning it is completely full of fruit flies.
