Even though punishment works to stop employees from doing bad things like showing up late or not doing their jobs well, it doesn't always lead to higher productivity levels. In reality, punishment just makes people get more punishment. So, the question is whether or not employees should be punished.

You can get people to behave well by setting up rewards. The most important thing is to tell employees what good behaviour will get them.

When workers are punished for doing work that isn't up to par, it makes them feel bad things like fear and anxiety. If you have to give a punishment, try to combine it with something good to make these bad things less likely to happen. For example, if the person's performance is criticised, they should be told what they can do to improve the quality of their work.

The manager or supervisor should show what good job performance leads to, such as a promotion, a good review, a bonus, or the chance to learn something new. This is a good way to punish the worker and praise him or her at the same time. It also lets employees know that they were disciplined for a real reason.
