Liberal Party Defence and National Security Policy Chair Lincoln Parker says the Chinese Communist Party “doesn’t respect or trust” its own people.

“The Chinese people don’t respect their own government, all for very good reason,” he told Sky News host Erin Molan.

“So how can you expect a Chinese Communist Party who hates the West and have said it … suddenly that they’re going turn around and go ‘oh yeah, everything’s fine Australia, we really like you’.

“Well, that’s not the case, and it is being naïve, and it is up to governments and leaders to have a very firm grasp on the realities of life, not on some fanciful idea of respect.”

Mr Parker’s remarks come after South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas said Australia needs to engage with China thoughtfully and honestly as a “relationship based on mutual respect can lead to forthright conversations”.

Either does the Australian government trust or respect its citizens.

I am sad to say this but US or AUS don't care about their citizens either. Trust is at an all-time low.

You could say the exact same thing about most governments in fairness

Indonesia Vietnam Philipines has 500 million people. Any aggression by USA & OZ over Taiwan will see countless millions flee south to Darwin to escape war.
They have nowhere else to flee.
Australia will become one ginormous refugee camp.
Oz will emerge as a 100 million Asian people nation on the other side of the blue.

Who has the US invaded since 1945? ...plenty, who has overthrown a multitude of foreign states because they have a different culture or Outlook? the US, who sanctions anyone who does not agree with their "values" ? - the US .
Who has pretty much abandoned their own values in recent years ? The US . Since Keating we have been a lapdog for the West, parroting fear mongering and labelling other cultures as we attempt to claim the moral high ground . The lack of discussion and debate in this country is appalling across many issues . The lack of geopolitical knowledge from these talking heads and bias funded institutes reaches levels of hysteria that are beyond belief .
Running countries with populations of diverse cultures, enormous land masses, differing resources and climate considerations are vastly different from what we as a nation expect with only 26 mill inhabitants. The name calling and fear has to stop, grow up !!!

I just love the entitlement of the so-called "good guys"... "we are good and we are always right, the others are bad"... we already had a precedent when somebody was entitled enough to say that he represent the "superior" nation and that all the other are inferior and must be put in place or just terminated... And how about USA Ministry of Defense buying shares from STARLINK to have access everywhere? oh, I forgot... this is something else

A recent foreign think tank survey showed that 91% of Chinese people trust and support the Chinese government.
I travel to China often on hols.
The Chinese people truly support their government as the government had lifted 800 mil out of poverty.
It’s government is largely free of corruptions.
It is very well run by capable bureaucrats.
Compare China with, say India or Phillipines.
It is a SUCESS.
In most third world countries with democratic governments…there are lots of corruption, nepotism, favoritism.
Their countries are not well developed and have lots of poverty.
Democracy is NOT a pre requisite to success.
A good authoritarian government can be very successful.
Korea, Taiwan started off as authoritarian.
Some say Lee Kuan Yew is an authoritarian.

Personally, I think it's about minding you own business, poking your nose into how your neighbour conducts himself in his own house has nothing to do with anyone else, anything else is going to cause trouble. Once that boundary is crossed from either side anything could happen, and I think this is an echo coming from a country that thinks it's the world policeman with a very narrow minded view point. I find it amusing that this is spoken about when we sell our coal and iron ore to China and then we buy their cars, it's just another tactic to get everyone's mind onto the next political scandal while these clown stick their hands in the till of the endless money pot, bet they are giving themselves a payrise. So how the bloody hell does Australia think it's going to spank China's butt, total garbage.

It's fun to see young communists faces when they realize that the hammer and sickle represents hard work.
It's my pleasure.

Apple has $30 billion US in equipment sitting in china, how fast and much can they get out. I don't think people realize how important it is that they're not able to use Taiwan as a submarine base to get to the deep sea. And I think the water's only waist-deep from Australia to Indonesia. Indonesia's an overpopulated making too many basket cases.
