Always be sure to work with a coach in a supervised environment before attempting any hypoxic or breath control work! Happy swimming everyone!

As a long distance runner, biker, and swimmer maintaing breathing is one of my biggest practices I find with swimming harder though cause your holding in your breath

Swimming is unique in the sports world due to asymmetric breathing requirements.
We have less than a second for air intake in Butterfly.
In every other sport, breathing is symmetrical for intake and exhaust.
I do hypoxic training drills whenever possible to increase lung efficiency.

A good dry land workout I've found that helps is using the Concept 2 rower. Especially if you distances like 1, 000 or 2, 000 meter workouts. In rowing there is no avoiding using your legs so that helps build your wind. Also, when you're rowing which is a pulling movement so I've found it has helped my freestyle pull as well.

Thanks for sharing these! I had no idea I could learn to swim like this because I didn’t have the resources. My only goal is to lose weight but I think some day soon I could get really good at it

Some of my breathing sets that I like to do (more for advance swimmers)

4x50s on 2:00
1. 3 breaths
2. 2 breaths
3. 1 breath
4. No breath

16x25s on 15s rest
No breath on all 25s

4x25s on 2:00
1. 30s float + 25 no breath
2. 40s float + ...
3. 50s ...
4. 60s ...

I just ordered an Aerofit from the link. I grew up as a swimmer, but in my late 30's I was in a bike accident which collapsed both lungs. I'm now in my late 50's learning to swim again. I never went back after my accident as I lose my breath very quickly. Now I go really slow to get use to it again. I can do other excersises to raise my heart rate, but the breathing keeps me from swimming. I hope this helps. I would love to be able to do a flipturn again and not run out of air.

really have to discuss the amount of breath to inhale/exhale, to exhale through nose/mouth or just the nose, complete exhalation or partial? Partial lung expansion? Rhytrhmc breathing, relaxed breathing?

How much rest on the beginners main set between distances? Thanks!

Apparently this is why I haven’t been able to swim past 50 meters without needing a rest.
