You nailed it at the end there Molly. The rest is just pure speculative silliness for people who are bored with reality.

Thanks Molly and Rocketboom.

I'm really enjoying these segments.

What is this my eyes perceive? A lovely English Rose with such eloquent British accent flowing from her tongue to inform me of paradoxes? I must have died and gone to Ceiling Cat Heaven! :O

If time travel is possible then where are all the tourists from the future?

At least, for those of us with a good memory and being over 50 years old. :-)

Nice video, Molly. You are getting better and better at doing pieces to camera. This one is really nicely paced. Good-oh!

re: the McFly conundrum, Marty from the future has access to info readily available in his timeline. The song wasn't invented by him, but he took it with him to 1955 where the "Chuck Berry sound" inspires Chuck, via his cousin Marvin who calls Chuck. Therefore Chuck remains the originator.

the thermal law of dynamics mentioned was probably the 2nd law of thermodynamics which states that the entropy, usually interpreted as the measure of disorder or randomness, of an isolated system (a system whose total mass and energy is a constant), can only either increase or stay constant. If the entire universe is an isolated system, then its entropy must be increasing, hence this "law" is sometimes invoked to explain the apparent forward direction of time (towards a state of higher entropy)

Ive always pondered on this, you should deff do more videos like it.

When one travels back in time, the point of re-entry creates a new time line. The new time-line is unbounded. Chuck Berry wrote Johnny B Good in time-line #1 and then Marty taught it to Chuck Berry in time-line #2. The two time-lines exist as parallel universes. Once you leave a time-line, you can never return to it.

It's not the thermal law of dynamics, it's the laws of thermodynamics.
Summarized and simplified, the laws result in "Energy can't appear or disappear, only convert form." and "Total entropy tends to always increase."

To introduce ppl to philosophy. Ontology (the study of being) is part of a major branch called "metaphysics, " i.e. the study of reality or "what is real?" that deals with these sorts of issues. Other metaphysical branches are: epistemology - the study of knowledge ("how we know what we know") which dominated western philosophy/linguistics for much of the 20th century, and cosmology - the study of the origins of the universe and its final status. The latter, IMHO, is best handled by astrophysics.

I've been an avid science fiction fan since I was almost still in the cradle, and I can say without a doubt that NOTHING gives me a greater headache than time travel speculation. :D

The paradox of time travel is so vast considering only the confines of a world as we know it, it becomes ever more so paradoxical when you include the infinite possibilities of our universe.

Time travel can't be possible unless every aspect of our existence can be defined mathematically. The smallest particles of our being must follow a determined order else everything of the present time would be changed irrevocably simply by making the trip.

This is exactly what happened in the Kagari ending of Steins;Gate 0.. The song of the stars appears in that series and apparently it has no origin, it's an ontological paradox.
