Best wishes from northland, we're still wondering why people live on alluvial floodplains. This is just bad planning. ... maybe leaving the rich prime ag soils for farms is better than turning them into urban development. Kerikeri is ripping out orchard after orchard and making retirement communities out of the best ag lands, bad planning as well. Over developing causes services to be overburdened and communities underserved, the roads just cant carry the traffic and daily ques area a clear indicator of over developed area's... this can be seen in every country. At this ti.e we are going to suffer food shortage from ag lands being turned into urban development... reaping what we sow. Everyone should start a backyard garden. Best of luck!

This video makes me rethink the impact of this storm. But... It shows how incredibly shit NZ infrastructure is dealing with this rather modest storm. I speak of experience having endured storms with winds up to 200 km/h for several hours back in 1990 in the Netherlands.
