I have owned my Speedmaster for 60 years; it was in storage for several decades until I recently had it serviced and found that it performs perfectly. The watchmaker who serviced it surprised me with his opinion that a vintage piece like this in mint condition was worth more that the going price for a new watch.

You shouldn’t wind any watch with one finger pushing up (or down!) against the crown. Same reason you should always take your watch off to set or wind it. Pushing up or down against the crown places undue side stress on the stem.
