I have never felt so much calmness and reassurance than during this video realizing I'm not alone and how I can improve the struggles and fears I have related to doing academic work with ADHD. Thank you.

I have ADHD and I relate so much to the struggle. Figuring out what to write down, while trying to focus on the professor, and understand what he’s saying is a juggling act. I don’t know how neurotypicals can do all that at ease. They must be aliens lol.

The problem is, I simply can’t do notetaking fast enough. I’m in nursing school and trying to memorize things but I’ll create a system and it’ll be too late to use because the system takes way too long to use but frankly there’s no systems out there that are as good as writing it down on a piece of paper for me.

This has been so reassuring and helpful! Your description at the beginning where you explain why taking notes with ADHD is so much more complicated is spot on! For example, I always get so distracted by the formatting of my notes and will miss things in lectures because I'm too busy trying to format my notes "correctly". Deciding what is and isn't worth writing down is also SOOOO hard. I have been tempted to just record all my lectures and write the notes down at home so I can pause the lecture and catch up when needed. So when you said that you do this I was like I'm not the only one!!!

I'm 30 yrs old and getting ready to go back to school. I think you described my issues perfectly. I listen to books and retain the information way easier than when I'm reading it. Recording the class is a great idea. I could go back and listen when I'm not so anxious and distracted.

I think something that would also help if you have an iPad is to not download apps or search anything that has nothing to do with your schoolwork. I wouldn't even FaceTime my family on it, in fact if its possible just delete the phone and music app from your iPad. Research shows that when you have one purpose for a place or item, it helps your mind to focus on that one purpose rather than what you COULD do. Like don't download music or take personal pictures on your iPad and be on your iPad in a place dedicated to studying under a lamp also dedicated to studying for 25-30 minutes. Then by the first sign of boredom, put away your iPad, turn off your lamp, and leave your study area to do something fun like play games or listen to music on your phone for like 5-10 minutes with discipline. Bonus points if you switch to a completely different class to work on.

My lecturers are actually really understandable of adhd and other problems one might have with studying and my current professor actually sends me the recording on the same day as the lecture if I show up (which is already a struggle itself haha), so what I'm saying is don't be afraid to ask what your professor can do for you 🙈

I’m a 41 year old mom of 5 and your video is super helpful!!! Great job and thanks for the tips! I was in the market for an iPad but you sold me on how to make it work since I also have ADHD. 👍🏽

Love this so much! Broke down in tears end of week 2, in class, trying to hide it and listen… and take notes in a completely scattered way.
I’m in my early 50s going back to college because my hands and knees don’t work so great anymore. Hoping to learn a new language, cause my ability to gab hasn’t diminished… lol
First though, all the required basics. Grrr
Overwhelmed and pushing through it.

Wonderful video, thank you so much. I’m ADHD and also have dysgraphia … my notes are not only affected by ADHD but they’re incredibly messy. I need to hand write things like you to help create more connections for memory, but … my writing causes fatigue and is messy. It’s quite the challenge.

THANK YOU!!!! THIS VIDEO MAKES ME FEEL SEEN! I was recently diagnosed (within the last few months) with combination ADHD. So not only do I struggle with paying attention, I also get hyper and have trouble sitting down for long periods of time! ON top of never learning how to properly take notes!

It’s so nice to learn from someone who actually experiences it! Thank you for keeping it so real! 💯 relatable!

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I enjoyed and learned so much. I have tremendously struggled (have had previous strokes and ADHD) with taking notes in class. I could op for a note taker with my accommodations but I chose to learn for my self. Thank you again for this insightful video. Please continue to do more like this!

I've always felt like I couldn't manage to work until I get meds, however here in France I find it really difficult to get diagnosed because it's not enough recognised and it's expensive. I'm always so happy to find sweet people like you offering tips that might relieve us and help us on a daily basis

Very like minded examples and explanations. Everything is noted so I can continue my research into note taking and implement what is most effective of all examples that fit me the most. I appreciate this video

I don't know that I've EVER left a comment on a youtube video. I wanted to THANK YOU for validating the need to change our (our=ADHD brains) systems SO frequently. I have about a half a dozen systems for various things (work, house stuff, self care, keeping track of kid's stuff) that I endlessly cycle through. It's not right or wrong. I't's just what works best for us. So, once again...THANK YOU for the validation.
