I just got a 5 quart stock pot, put a rubber pressure ring under the lid so I don't lose water then followed your instructions--it just came out so perfect and in 30 minutes. I couldn't believe it. I did rinse it like you said, I never did that before and it made it so much better. Then I took half and threw it into my split pea soup. I am so glad I subscribed. I really was afraid of a mess in a steel pot. Nothing stuck, just a little starch leftover, seconds to clean. Thanks, Kevin. You know your stuff.

or in a rice cooker. 1 to 2 pearled-barley to water ratio. cooks in 20 minutes under the brown rice setting.

I do have a question, since I am knew to using a small steel stock pot, after you wash yours, do you warm it and wipe it with olive oil? Spanish Chefs say its a must-do and so I did: I figured it can only keep it from being a stick-pot instead of a stock-pot. What are your thoughts on this?
