Couscous is tiny pasta made with semolina flour from durum wheat, mixed with water. Sometimes it’s easy to confuse it with bulgur which is a cereal food made from the cracked wheat (usually durum wheat) because they are very similar in appearance.

What is the difference between Israeli couscous and regular couscous?

Israeli couscous is bigger than regular couscous (which is approximately the size of quinoa) and has a rounder shape like pearls. That’s why it is also called pearl couscous. However, it is also known as ptitim, giant couscous or gourmet couscous.

Once you cook Israeli couscous you can mix it with fresh chopped vegetables, lemon juice, olive oil and feta cheese and create a delicious Israeli couscous salad.

👍 Thank you! So many videos don't tell you how to actually cook the couscous .. turns out pretty much like pasta, not regular couscous. Nice idea as a salad 👌

I love couscous and made it myself for the first time today. It came out mushy, so I found myself here. This video has Alvin Zhou vibes and I'm loving it. Also, definitely making it this way next time. Much easier than what the box said.

Couscous origin is from North Africa : it is the national emblematic dish of Algeria Morocco Tunisia Libya Mauritania .
What you name pearl couscous is not a couscous . The originel name is berkoukes, also a specialty of North Africa .
Couscous has been adopted in several other regions of the world like Europe mainly France due to colonial history (French colonization of North Africa )
Italy around the 9th century after Arrival of soldiers from North African origin in the Muslim army

Then couscous has been adopted much more later in Syria Palestine Israel
During the 19th and 20 century due to arrival in these areas of populations from North African origin (civil population who felt French colonialism in 19th century and later Jewish population from North African origin at the creation of Israel or during Second World War ) who established in Middle East
With time each country développés it’s own couscous
However there are more than 50 type of couscous just in North Africa which is the area of origin ( vegetable couscous with or without sauce, lamb couscous with specific vegetables, chicken couscous, fish couscous, winter couscous summer couscous
Sweet couscous salty couscous
Wedding couscous …. Midnight couscous … breakfast couscous Etc )
