My elderly aunt mixed spicy pepper powder into her bird seed and for a while, it worked. But just like you can get used to eating spicy food, so can squirrels, apparently. 😂

It’s the 8-10 feet away from anything that gets most people I think. The feeder needs to be isolated away from trees, fences or decks because the squirrels will jump if they are close enough. Haven’t had squirrels on my feeders except for when I left something nearby they could jump off lol.

I hope you have one of those wildlife cameras somewhere to keep an eye on it. I'm not positive about that deterrent, hope it works at least your not out a bunch of money 😊

Squirrels are cute and adorable 🥰 and they should be free to share the delicious fruits and seeds as well as nuts you have provided for the birds 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

My question is what do you do when your squirrels are insane !!our squirrels eat the squirrel proof feeders !! They break them within hours - They will find a way to launch themselves onto a baffle and get in a feeder- ( we don’t have a backyard that will accommodate a 10 ft space from trees )unless we put out in open and we have a lot of hawks . we had an expensive squirrel proof feeder they broke - back to Home Depot the next day …& no way to put
One even got caught in our hummingbird feeder ( the perch ) she was trying to eat the metal perch - we zoomed out and I put a broom under the stupidhead and she got untangled- no tries since - but we lose every time- they even chew on our fencing !and they get food on the ground as we are done with bird feeders- I throw food out 2x daily so everyone gets some ! In the winter they will eat a cake of suet in an afternoon - a lot of our neighbors have feeders so they come in waves !!

All our native squirrels and chipmunks have been displaced by Eastern Gray Squirrels. Sure, they're cute but really, they are just fluffy tailed rats who bully other species and damage my garden. Baffles do keep them off feeders.
