Classic movie!!
As a 17-18 year old kid, I did not appreciate it as much as I do now.
Thank you Spike!
I love you man!!

Crazy watching this after Gorge Floyd being murdered

The main character in this movie was the heatwave.
Everyone was going crazy, and no one was doing the right thing, as the old man tried to tell them.

It's amazing how prescient even this interview was, perched right on the precipice of the greatest racial flashpoint of the last twenty years.

Thomas Diglio...."if he had stopped resisting...." It was excessive force and murder. How can you resist when you're being strangled with a night stick? In the scene, did you hear the other cop telling him to stop? and that's enough? It STILL resonates today...25 years later. Unarmed murder of Black men, and children. Do The Right Thing and either watch the scene again, or the movie in its entirety. In this scene, try watching it without race. It was murder. Peace. 😎🙌👮

I fucking hated this movie. They burned down that place for no reason!! It wasn't Sal's fault! It was the cops for one, and the Buggin character for starting shit! Sal was a nice guy but of course, he got angry and god forbid he called someone a NAME AND THEY TURNED ON HIM!!

My favorite Spike Lee movie to this day but with only one complaint: being that it took place in Bed Stuy in '86(based on real events that year) there surprisingly was no drug dealer to represent the crack epidemic that hit minority populations disproportionately higher than anywhere else in America during that decade. Was that guy that sold pictures an addict?

I still don't buy that scene with John Savage and Buggin Out...
Savage and his bike passed on the LEFT of Buggin, who looks down at the scuff mark on his RIGHT shoe.

Just watched this film for class. I believe this film is extremely relevant today. Yea the cop that strangled Raheem used excessive force but I don't think the cop thought he was killing him. Raheem is a big dude so it was going to take more to subdue him. Maybe the cop let his emotions take over, who knows. The cop was in the wrong but there's only a few characters in the film that aren't at one point or another. The real message that I got from the film was that violence is chaotic and achieves nothing positive. The MLK quote at the end really wraps up the intended purpose of the film.

These movies add to the problem. 25 yrs and nothing has changed. Made Spike Lee a millionaire and the Gettos stay the same. Wake up.
