10 Tips from Spike Lee for Screenwriters and Filmmakers

Oscar winning screenwriter Spike Lee Interview about the screenplay writing process in his films: She's Gotta Have It, Do the Right Thing, Jungle Fever, Malcolm X, BlacKkKlansman and Da 5 Bloods. He was a director on a music video They Don't Care About Us and was in a feud with Quentin Tarantino over the film Django Unchained. He won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for his movie BlacKkKlansman.

tip 1 - 0:46 - Write about yourself and what you know
tip 2 - 1:21 - Making even a terrible film is hard
tip 3 - 1:51 - If you want to be a director, you have a much bigger chance to get your (first) film made if you also write your own screenplays
tip 4 - 2:46 - For drama you got to have two people butting heads. And to elevate that drama both have to be right

tip 9 - 9:24 - If you go to film school, don’t go for the degree. Go to learn the game, to use their resources and to come out with a finished film or a screenplay
