The best reason to NOT buy USCCA is that their policy does not cover you if you take a plea deal. Most states have mandatory minimum sentences for gun crimes. If you are charged and are facing a potential 7 or 10 year sentence and the DA says, "Let's make a deal. Plead guilty to a misdemeanor charge and pay $250 fine and we'll call it good." If you take that deal, (I would), you will have to pay back every penny USCCA paid out thus far. That would be $15k or $20k minimum. So what good is USCCA if you still have to pay? USLawShield does not do that to their clients.

I was an Elite member with USCCA for 10 years. I left them and went to CCWSafe after learning about their recoupment clause. Much better coverage. They even cover Red Flag laws.

Really good video and some important info you shared. One thing you did not mention in regard to USCCA is that in the event you lose your criminal case, or civil case for that matter, they'll be knocking on your door for reimbursement. To me, that is a major deal breaker. I'm probably going to switch to CCW Safe for that reason.

Biggest deal-breakers for me would be when the coverage for criminal defense is not high enough. CCW Safe has no criminal limit. The civil defense won't matter near as much as the criminal, and some states give immunity to civil if the defendant wins the criminal case. So criminal defense is far more important, and USCCA is not near high enough. True that some crimes happen by people known to the person, but in today's age of censorship and rioting and looting and the division we're seeing begin in America it would not surprise me if strangers assault or crimes of opportunity. Next deal-breakers for me would be reimbursement plans. USCCA has a clause in the contract that if the defendant accepts a plea or is convicted they may then seek to be repaid for every dollar they spent. Other worse companies not compared here will only pay after the defendant is found not guilty, which is like sending the army after you win the war. Also, USCCA currently has a lawsuit against them for not paying out the benefits to one of their active platinum members, and they won't comment when asked. If they were going to deny any case on a whim then they need to state as much up front in the contract. I personally like CCW Safe and Armed Citizens' Legal Defense Network the most. The caveat to ACLDN is that they may deny the case, but they are superbly qualified to review the case based on the members of their team including Massad Ayoob, John Farnam, Dennis Tueller, and others.

Thanks for sharing! Good job with this video. I have had CCW safe for many years and fortunately have never used it!

US LawShield does cover civil litigation. It also covers you for self-defense no matter what legal item you use to defend yourself. Knife, hammer, fists...

Thanks for your insight. I have CCW Safe Protector Plan. Chose this because coverage has no maximum limits for criminal defense work including expert witnesses, and premiums are competitive.

This has been right-on-time. I have USCCA and I've just gotten certified as an instructor.
I travel often, and find the info. you have provided to be extremely helpful. I wish I could get my hands on your break down so that I may share it with other firearm instructors and students. Thank you

Well done. Informative and balanced video. I appreciate how you presented the objective facts first, then your advice separately. Also, thanks for the distinction between liability defense fees and liability damages - I had overlooked that. Subscribed.

Thoughtful breakdown and discussion of what to look for.
Currently, do not have any of these. USCCA was the only one I was aware of, so good to know the options and considerations.

Great video. Well explained. I am looking for some type of Self Protection/Concealed Carry Insurance. The 3 things I am looking for are: Bail bond, knowledgeable attorney, and coverage for any legal weapon. I work on a federal installation, and am subject to random searched in my car, so I can't always carry a firearm. When I can't, I carry pepper spray and a fixed blade fighting knife (2" blade). Leaning strongly towards US Lawshield.

Very informative video. Great to see the difference between these companies. You might also want to look at Firearms Legal Protection as they seem to have pretty good coverage. You are right about the civil liability part. What happens in reality and what is presented in a court room by a plaintiff are usually very different things. There have been more than one case where a person was found not guilty in a criminal trial, yet still found guilty during a civil trial.

Your "Deal breakers" are what makes this summary so valuable. Great job. New subscriber.

I have CCW Safe Ultimate. None of the plans are perfect, but that one met my needs the best. It is expensive, but it provides a lot of peace of mind. My #1 deal breaker was limits on attorney's and other legal fees. #2 was civil liability coverage. #3 was red flag. I did not care about the family exclusion because no one in my family is even remotely a threat. I know that is a big assumption, but I am willing to take that risk. I also did not care about choosing my own attorney. If an incident happens, I don't want to be researching attorneys. I also did not care about training, weapon replacement or income replacement. Counseling is a nice to have, though.

Awesome overview. You really broke this down in a very simple and definitive way. Kinda sucks you can't customize your coverage.

Possibly the best video breaking down the differences I’ve seen to date. I had made my decision and decided to do a little more research when I found your video. I had missed a couple of benefits that directly impact my situation and changed my decision. Thanks!

Edit to add: Liked and subscribed for this video alone!

I just watched 10 plus videos on this subject. This was by far the most informative.

@Obsidian's Arms. This break down has me thinking hard about my CCW Insurance provider... As many others here have pointed out, you have brought much to the attention of us who carry and use these companies. I am grateful for the professional break down and explanation of the services tendered. Thank you.

Dorky newbie here. This is more than helpful - I don't care how long videos are when they are well researched and informed. I hadn't even considered this outside of my personal umbrella. I appreciate you taking the time.
