I used to have a salt water fish tank long ago. It was my first real effort to do one. So I bought different fish that I always thought were cool. I had 3 different types of puffers one was a Hawaiian puffer. I also had a small Moray Eel as well and 2 clown fish and some crazy hairy crab that hitched a ride on some rocks i bought to seed the tank. The Moray Eel and the Hawaiian puffer always were together like they were best friends or something lol. The Moray Eel was just the coolest and actually a very nice looking Eel. I still miss that salt water tank and all the fun I had learning about the hobby and just watching the fish. The tank made my apartment feel so much cooler and was a huge hit with chicks too lol.

These are fast becoming my favourite bottom feeders. They are tough, powerful, relentless, they do death rolls, the knot thing, they have multiple sets of jaws and most importantly of all they are smart... Just an awesome animal.

More of a cephalopod fan, I was kind of hoping to see an octopus win one…. That said, the morays exhibited a level of awareness and calculated and deliberate action that surprised me as they pulled out large pieces of coral and set them aside while clearing the way to the octopi. They are not simply reactive hunters. The death roll tactic is effectively employed, too, in a way that signified a thought process. Very cool.

I was cheering for the octopus, I think they are so cool, but the moray eel definitely has the teeth and muscles to pack a serious punch. They are one seriously efficient predator.

Accidentally caught a moray once. Hauled it on the boat and it was PISSED. It made eye contact, hissed and lunged at us. It was kinda funny because it squared off on one side of the boat and we all ran to the other side cowering in fear. We finally got it overboard and cut the line. Respect.
