2007 Toyota Prius did not turn off when hitting the power button. This may not be a permanent solution but will at least turn the car off so you can move on with your day. See comments for other viewers' solutions.

To fix the problem :
1-Open the driver door
2-push 2 time start boton, with no brake pedal
3-play with head light on and off, same time push brake pedal many times ( together )
4-when you see the red light on dashport ( open doors ) it means it is fix .

You need to push twice the power button just after you turn off the engine

All Prius owners need to watch this video with this symptom it's a guarantee a mechanic or even the dealership would rip you off

My bf bought an 09 Prius with taxes and this just happened to me while driving it! I texted him and thought that I broke the car somehow. TYSM for showing me how to at least turn it off and retrieve his key!!! Much appreciated good Sir. Thank you, and take care. 🌟

Just hold the Info button (top right of center display) while you turn the lights on and off three times. The car will turn off. All displays will turn off, and then you can turn the car on and off and it will be back to normal

Thank you all for your comments! They were so helpful! I followed your instructions that turned my car off, then my car turned right back on without issue. Yes!!

Thanks a lot man. These Priuses work like a Windows PC. Too many random issues.

While pressing the brake hold the power button down until you hear a little click (maybe 6 seconds) then two quick pushes on the power button immediately "tap tap"

Press and hold doesn't always work. When all else fails, I've found that sometimes I've had to "machine gun tap" on the power button, then stop and wait, over and over again. Eventually the car will turn off. Since it's on a 3 push cycle, sometimes you will luck out and end your tapping on the proper "power down" push and the car will turn off, but it requires a lot of blind trying and some luck. It behaves like the power switch is going bad or something.

There’s two fuses on the auxiliary battery that need to be unplugged for like one minute plug them back in and you’ll have your dashboard lights

I have a 2004 and it does this on a rare occasion. Here’s What to do… (feel free to make video)
Press the brake pedal until you hear the humming sound at that point just keep your foot down on it then, at the same time, press the power button, and mine just goes completely off. I hope yours does too. (Yay!)

Same thing happened to me, it happens when then the dash lights don't turn on (in your video, your dash lights are off too, and they shouldn't be). Try fixing that and see what happens (search for replace combination meter capacitor). If it doesn't fix the power button issue at least you'll be able to see the speedometer, gas level, which gear you're on, etc

I experienced the exact same problem this morning. I pushed the power button twice then held it down until the power went off. I opened the door, saw the red door light flashing, closed the door, pressed brake and pushed power button. The car started and the instrument panel came on. I started and turned off the prius 3 times, each time with success. I am still uncertain what caused the following list of issues, dark instrument panel, rear monitor not engaging when in reverse, power not disengaging, or if the issues will return and the same fix work.

my 2015 Prius would not turn off.
so I changed the key FOB battery and it did not happen again.
fixed it for less than $10.

Thank you so much for this video! Helped me on a roadtrip in the mountains, across the country from home. 2007 prius started but dash lights weren't on then the prius wouldn't turn off...

Held power button, clicked twice more to shut off completely. Held info button and switched headlights on and off 3 times to do a recheck in diagnostics. Turned on like normal, off, and on again. It's all back to normal! Magic💕🤗🥁🙌🌻

Pushing buttons too fast causes the problem & tricks one of the $.20 cent Capacitors on the 'Combination Meter' ( buried deeply under your GPS screen ).
