A friend of mine lost his life as a test pilot for Cirrus. I believe it was the last time a Cirrus plane flew without a parachute. Scott Anderson gave his life for the safety of others and as a result he never got to meet his son.

Any landing you walk away from is a good landing.:)

I met this gentleman yesterday at Sky Acres Airport in Dutchess County. He's doing well and still flying a Cirrus. His daughter is also still into flying between classes. A very fortunate man.

The chances of landing that grassy spot amongst all of those buildings, trees light poles etc... unreal

Parachutes have around for such a long time, this type of system should have been implemented a long time as well. Glad they were safe and kudos for Cirrus

The moment my airplane develops a serious problem, it belongs to the insurance company... I'll try to get down as safely as possible.

That touchdown may have been less than gentle, but it beats the alternative. Gravity will always win over lift, eventually.

Gravity never loses. The best we can hope for is a draw.

A racing buddy of my dad helped invent this they ran together in USAC midgets and sprints back in the 60s his name was carroll shelby. unfortunately his son was killed in a hang gliding competition. Some time later he came up with the first prototype for the hang gliders. What a good down to earth man. I loved going to the old timers conventions with my dad you never knew who you were going to eat dinner with. I wonder how many lives he has saved to date. RIP 🤠

That appears to be a standard landing for a Cirrus.

Anyone that thinks they could've "glided to a field landing" should try to find one on the satellite view of Googlemaps near the Pall Corporation- where they landed. 225 Marcus Blvd, Hauppauge, NY 11788. Good luck with that.

I know that it is the last thing in mind after walking away from something like this; but even the airplane looks in decent shape. So great idea to have that parachute

We live in an age where a plane crash landing is more “boop” than “boom”

Wow now that's aviation innovation.

Harder than a carrier landing, but they walked away.

According to the glide ratio, a cirrus aircraft is capable of gliding about 2.8 miles before oops. Better have a spot to land real soon. Parachute deployment will hopefully keep damage to a minimum as well as save your life.
