I love how Miles says "maybe in another universe" when talking about revealing his identity to his parents in the beginning of the film. Only to end up literally telling his mom from another dimension by the end of the film

Animators responsible for this really deserve a raise for stellar work

Prowler Miles' dad died, so he spends more time with his mom and you can hear that he has more of a Puerto Rican accent because of it.

It's such a small detail but they were so careful to include it. Absolutely amazing.

I love Rio's speech about Miles never letting anyone tell him he doesn't belong, because pretty much the entire second half of the movie is Miguel telling Miles that he's an anomaly and doesn't belong.

Okay, I have to bring this up, because it blew my mind.
In Mumbattan, Miles immediately gives distinct orders to the three other Spiders applicable to their skills. He sends Hobie and Gwen to slow down the building because they are the most experienced and powerful heroes there. Miles and Pav clear the civilians because Pav knows the city better than anyone and Miles' free-running skills work better with the tight, narrow buildings than web-swinging.
And here is the part that blew my mind;
This is a *direct* contrast to how *bad* of a leader Miguel is. He gives one general order to every Spider in the Society which results in them not even knowing who to go after, clawing over each other and getting in their own way.

When Miles and Gwen are sitting upside down, she leans into him. Except they're upside down. She isn't leaning, she's pulling herself to him. She's making a deliberate effort to make a connection.

Hobie is a real one. He not only helped protagonist Miles with escaping, even when he was not supposed to, he even smiled when the protagonist Miles escaped.

The interesting thing about Hobie is that he's what an actual anarchist is like: patient, methodical, opportunistic

The anarchists that you see just throwing stuff all over the place without a plan are what people think of instead; an image that only helps actual anarchists because their plans are unexpected.

One thing that I have only seen a couple of people point out-- Miguel is straight up WRONG about Pavitr's dimension. What is happening in Pavitr's dimension is NOT the same as what happened to the universe where Miguel replaced his variant--- it's what the ORIGINAL Peter Parker from Miles's universe said would happen. A BLACK HOLE Opened up under Mumbattan. Chris Pine's version of Peter Parker says that during his fight with Green Goblin and Kingpin and Prowler. He warns them that if they use the collider it could open up a black hole underneath Brooklyn. THAT is what's happening to Pavitr, but Miguel is, like most of the audience for most of the movie, underestimating the Spot. He's too focused on Miles. He and the other Spideys aren't paying attention to the Spot and the damage he's doing. EVEN AS HE IS DOING IT. Spot is a massive threat and they're STILL underestimating him. It's a big thing and it's crazy to think about it.

"Hobie, you're not helping."
"Good."

I love that bit. It's two quick lines in a cacophony of lines during an intense moment, but it tells you exactly where Hobie stands on the situation.

i loved how when miles saw uncle aaron again, his first two instincts are A) fear because he's the prowler, and B) to hug him because he missed his uncle. it's such a sad but sweet moment

Also, Miguel says to Miles "you have to choose between saving one person, or saving the entire world, " which corresponds to the first movie when Miles asks Peter how he is supposed to save the whole world. Peter replies with "you can't. You have to focus on saving one person."

Also can we just appreciate that the lego spiderverse was animated entirely by a 14 year old boy in Canada in his off hours after school? Because that's insane.

My biggest takeaway from the movie is how by trying to stop Miles, they're essentially excluding him from being Spider-Man
Because those events aren't "Spider-Man lets someone die" it's "Spider-Man *tries* to save someone and *fails* "
But they're not even letting him try.

"Hobie : i don't believe in consistency"

His character design or artstyle changes like all the time, because he's inconsistent. Really shows the difference in hobie from everyone and i really loved that they went with this idea for hobie.

I ESPECIALLY love hobie’s characterization in this movie because he is the EMBODIMENT of punk. he’s always looking out for miles and gwen and pav, and he’s strongly anti-government, not even to mention his sense of style. it’s really cool to see that type of punk representation portrayed accurately!!

Gwen's theme fits so well. The guitar riff is actually a sped up version of the the classic animated Spider-man theme.

My favorite part of this movie, is Miles reaction to being betrayed. When he snapped Gwen’s web, I cheered. So often do MC’s let themselves be ran over by others, and don’t allow themselves to be mad, when literally any normal person should be.

I know there's many scenes to cover, but I'm sad no highlight on "You call this art?" "We're talking about it aren't we". Such a baller response to that. One of the purposes of art is spark a conversation, and get you thinking. Modern art, whether or not you feel like it makes sense or has that level of intentionality, absolutely does that.

This movie has to be shown in film and animation schools. To show how you write a story and how to use art to tell a story. From the jaw dropping animation, dope screenplay to the amazing music, it's so far the best movie of this year and one of the greatest movies of all time. Stan Lee and Steve Ditko will be proud. I'm still bummed that didn't make a billion dollars. Also, this is the best commentary on the movie.
