I think I figured out how you can get your pizza scored 8 and above:
-Make it a "bar" pizza or at least keep it thin
-Keep it longer in the oven to make it crispy
-Use quality ingredients with an emphasis on low-moisture mozzarella to keep the grease factor down
-Keep the pie simple. No fancy shit.

Wow! He was using 7.9 or 8.1 type language the whole review then dropped that colossal 8.8 score. Looked like a really good pie but I was shocked.

Dave I'm so glad you made it down to Freehold NJ. Federici's is one of our favorite pizzeria's good sauce, nice cheese to sauce ratio thin crisp crust bar pie. I am like you when I try a place I always go with the plain cheese pie. My favorite pie here is the sausage and pepper pie, crumbled sweet fennel sausage and green pepper (no onions). I also lived in Woodbridge NJ. when you went to Strawberry's Pub I explained why it was named that, because it's in the Strawberry Hill section of Woodbridge. Anyway I'm happy to see you reviewing good (for the most part) local pizzeria's outside of Manhattan. "What's up Frankie" love your camera work!
