Learn how to replace the long home button flex on an iPad.

In this video, we’ll show you how to:
✅How to fix a torn iPad 5, 6, 7, 8 Gen Home Button Flex
✅How to desolder the long portion of the home button flex.
✅What to check for on the replacement flex
✅And more!

If you have an iPad 5, iPad 6, iPad 7 or iPad 8, you'll notice that these all have Touch ID, which means, if the home button flex gets torn, you cannot simply just replace the home button, otherwise, you'll lose Touch ID.

But if the torn flex is on the long part of the flex, you have a chance to actually fix it.

The process is simple. Very similar to an iPad charging port.

Here's the tools I show in the video:

I was repairing my iPad screen couple of months ago and I broke the touch ID cable.

I kinda game up on the iPad. Then I saw your video and I ordered everything on injured Gadgets like you said. This website is incredible, I ordered over 350$ of parts. Broken iphone and mac.

Everything arrived in a week. I then proceeded on followinf your tutorial. At one point I thought I broke the cable where I did solder it. (Didnt use a microscope and no major practice at soldering.

But then I tried it anyways and it works!!! I repaired it an hour ago.

Thank you so so much! Instead of spending a lot of money, i spend only $3.14 on replacing the cable.

Amazing! Now ill repair the flexgate issue on my 2017 macbook pro.

Love from Mauritius island 🇲🇺

Keep making videos!! You make videos other channels don’t and you explain it better!! Way better Than listening to background music and watching a video trying to figure it out.

Thanks for this! I am tempted to try, but can I ask your opinion: if the home button is hot, the battery drains quickly and Touch ID cannot be turned on - is this a broken button, cable or maybe dirty connections?😊

I ripped the solder points on the original home button and I wonder if its still reparable. If you have any social media please link it to me because its a lot easier to explain visually the problem.

My cable broke and the home button and Touch ID is no longer recognized when it's plugged in... the tape peeled up on this exact portion and pulled two of the contact points with it and severed the connection I'm assuming. So the first 2 rectangle solder points to the right near the silver chip pulled up, and ripped a few of the solder lines that are going downward. The "top" layer of the cable coming from the home button ripped halfway underneath the solder points. Should I be able to just solder these connections back together??

Hi Jesse, thanks for the video. I am actually in Australia and I find it really difficult to find a replacement home button that is in two pieces. I tried the link that you put there and it came up with an error. Do you know any good website that I can buy the replacement home button from?

Would it be possible to get one of the one line Flex cables (the one with the fake solder joints) and just cut it after the joints and solder over it? Or do you think the joint arent even connected

Hey, I came here hoping you could give me some advice. I’m new to repairing devices. Right now I’m trying to replace my digitizer for my IPad 6. Problem is, I used alcohol on the tape connecting the two flex cables. I thought it was extra adhesive to keep it secured onto the digitizer. When I finally got rid of the tape. My two flex cables detached. Can I still repair that?

Hi can you please help me? My Ipad7 Screen broke and I got a replacement with a new home button. When I installed it and power it on, the the iPad keeps inputting the pass code by itself until the iPad locks me out for a day. When I go back and power it on, it does the same thing again and says it can’t communicate with the home button and I should go to iTune. I tried changing the home button but it does the same thing.
