Such a bassist class act Leland is. So melodic and never overplaying. A true player.

Stoked to see someone talk about Leland!! Underrated...met him a few times. Told him we adore his music ... said: “gon keep goin till I get it right.” That’s the outlook, isn’t it??

Of his uncountable great bass lines, I love his bass line to Jackson Browne's 'Doctor My Eyes'

My favourite Leland Sklar performance is the already mentioned "Falling in between" with Toto. The first time I heard it I thought: "Wow, they can do that??? It's nearly Jazz- and still sounding like Toto". An incredible album, I totally agree.

I love Lee Sklar on "Your smiling face" by James Taylor and his playing on "Sarah Smile" and "Rich Girl" by Hall and Oates and of course "The theme from Hill Street Blues"

A sure sign of a good bassline is a spontaneous smile on the bass players face.

I like literally every bassline from Leeland Sklar. His playing contains the most unexited and cool, band serving, musical lines that bring the parts of a piece together.
He sure is the bassplayers bassman. Every player of and style is able to learn something from Lee.

It's a pleasure to see you perform and particularly to do Leland Sklars excellent work. Some of his best was done with James Taylor. To have you do so in Vienna is an extra treat. I lived there as a very young boy. We had a house across from the wine gardens in Grinzing, and I was pleased to return to see it a while ago with my wife. Vienna is truly a beautiful city, and you are a talented and lovely young woman that gives me great hope for the future. Thanks for the smiles.

Yep, love that "Woman's got to have hit". Beyond all James Taylor and Phil Collins stuff, there are thousands of tracks where we can enjoy his lines. "Doctor my eyes", by Jackson Browne;" Confide in me", by The Manhattan Transfer"; "Cooling down", by Olivia Newton-John; "Must be cracy", by Adrew Gold"... there's no point in writting down all the tracks I love where his contribution is priceless. Because the list is really huge. That long beard may make him look like God. And He's everywhere, so...

Lots of favorite Leland Sklar bass lines to choose from but I would say the Jackson Browne song “ Doctor My Eyes “ comes to mind first

Guitar players absolutely amaze me. I've been playing drums since 1964 and when rehearsing/performing I'll focus in on either bassist or six string guy and see if I can understand how playing guitar is done, I can't imagine how those ten fingers know what to do. It's all very abstract to me...never could make sense of what the logic is that accounts for the many variations and configurations that make one a guitarist. When I brought this up during our warming up minutes some time back, my guitarist said that he and the bassist couldn't figure out how drummers can do what they do when having to work all four limb, each doing a different thing in different time. I guess we are all hardwired as kids to survey the instrument world and rather quickly, one stands out and yells, "Hey, it's me...you were born to play me, me, me!" There must be something to this because the first time I sat at a kit, I just started playing a typical high-hat, snare 4/4 groove based upon what I saw Ringo playing on Ed Sullivan while kicking the bass out of pure instinct because I did not consciously know what I was doing. I thought, well this is it and drums will sure be a far better enterprise than taking years of piano or violin lessons and still sounding like a putz. By the way, young lady, you own the bass

That bass line from Billy Cobham's Spectrum has always been a personal favorite of mine.

I'm 71, and only was familiar (obsessed) with the Spectrum album among all his work, and thanks to a random fan comment on social media, I'm happy to finally become familiar with Leland Sklar's entire career and to appreciate so much of the music he has made and continues to make. Thanks for this nice companion to his own videos, and props to your talent and enthusiastic energy.

A girl in Vienna playing old bass parts from an American bass legend. Music - the universal language. Julia, you are great.

Lee Sklar on Stephen Stills Love Story. Superb. That bass simply elevates that song to something very special.

His playing on the song "Never Die Young" by James Taylor is without a doubt my favorite; the way he moves around the pocket and then drops right back in is just amazing!

As a young man i was addicted to the Video Version of "Seriously Live" from the magnificent Waldbühne in Berlin.

To this day, it is one of the Best live Perfomances i ever saw.
A top group of individual perfomers, who came together and being something so much bigger, then just the sum of their greatness.
Everybody gets his spotlight. Nobody seems to be just in there for the money. I love the Chemestry!

My fave Leland bass part is from Phil Keaggy's "Take Me Closer." The bass line chases the drum fills -simply awesome!
