►Performing an oil change on your Porsche 911 997 is one of the simplest and most important maintenance tasks you can complete. Whether you have a 997.1 or a 997.2, this applies to you.

The engine's oil keeps the moving components happy and is critical to a properly performing engine. If left for too long, the oil will break down and lose some of its effectiveness. Porsche recommends a 10,000-mile oil service interval, but that is on the long side, even for regularly driven examples. We recommend replacing the oil and filter every four to five thousand miles to ensure that the flat-six continues to perform as it once did.

In this DIY, Michael Hidalgo walks us through the step-by-step process of replacing the oil and filter on this Porsche 997 911. This process can be done with minimal tools in less than an hour in your garage or driveway at home. Making this process even easier is our assembled oil change kits. For your car, be sure to use the "My Garage" vehicle selection tool on our home page to ensure an exact fit.

I find the only reason manufacturers locate the oil filter on top of the engine is that they also recommend sucking used oil out from the top instead of draining it from the bottom. But it seems this guy here doesn't even have a dipstick. What are they trying to pull?

on the oil filter, I bought a torque wrench that only goes to 33.9 nm, and 20 ft lbs, do I need to get another wrench?
