Autistic people are not anti-social, most social places just are not very accommodating to autistic people. Totally get the auditory processing thing, I love Dungeons and Dragons but it's a nightmare trying to keep up with everyone talking.

Moral of the story: autistic people are just as unique and varied as neurotypical people! :^)

"...just a little bit rubbish at stuff..." - Awesome line :D I've been lucky with my lady too and she just "gets me". I don't question it any more (just in case ;)). I have EUPD (a physiological condition caused, as far as they know, by childhood trauma->long term cortisol production, a stress hormone->damage to amygdala in the brain that regulates emotion. On top of this I have some fairly hefty autistic traits (so I'm quite borderline with regards being autistic). I have severe depression as a bonus prize because I spent so many years masking, so the physiological and the mental are very much intertwined. Having a physiological one would seem likely to increase the chances of having a mental one especially if you went incorrectly diagnosed for a long time. I'm NOT a professional but have spent a hell of a long time (decades) studying these kinds of conditions, so take this with a pinch of salt as it were. It could be complete cobblers :)

I'm overly empathetic, even when I probably shouldn't be...
As to romantic relationships, I'm in an @utistic relationship (we're both on the spectrum). Very happy, especially in comparison to many couples I've seen. I know this is extremely bias if me, but sometimes I feel like @utistic relationships last longer than neurotypicals. Not just romantically, but even just in friendship. Maybe that's just my experience and views of what I've seen, though.

Im not anti-social, im just selectively social with people who i like trust, have things in common with. If im around people that i don't know well, don't talk to, don't like, or care for, i can become an introvert. When i'm around people that i like whether it's through school, social events, common interests, hobbies, work, I can become very extroverted and talkative when im around people that i like talking to and feel safe and comfortable around.
I have empathy too, and i love those who I care about.

Thanks for mentioning us girls :) I wasn’t diagnosed until I was 17 because I masked very well

Trauma disorders such as PTSD and dissociative disorders are considered "mental illnesses" but they are very grounded in neurology/neural pathways/damage to the nervous system. So it's really not as black and white as your explanation of the difference between neurological disorders vs mental illness.

Ah! The "All autistic are alike" myth! I have a funny little story with that: I'm part of an ND group designed to make Asperger people interact with each other and also understand autism better (I normally don't like using "Asperger" because of the history, but they are specifically researching that kind of university student). That means that in that group not only we're all autistic, we all have the "same kind of autism" according to the doctors. And I think I've ever met a group of people more different to each other than them. In terms of demeanor, interests, strengths, weaknesses, opinions, speech pattern, we're all completely different from each other, in spite of our undoubted common traits. So yeah, the "All autistic are alike" myth is a bunch of bull. We have similarities, but we're not all made with an "autistic printer"
