Living Off Grid Is Hard Work

In this weeks video I talk about being nervous for my winter walk to work and the challenges living off grid can be. We also had the all-mighty task of preparing more fire wood for winter since we realised we didn't have enough.

Make sure you stack the wood somewher so it can dry before you use it. Yes the weahter is a bit unpredicical this timeof the year, the "april fools weather", But don´t worry soon the spring is hear and everything will blossom, and with that the weather will be nicer.

Yes it sucks when working outside in bad weather. Theres always a nice warm house at the end of the workday to go home to....And yes back in the day we did walk 10 miles uphill to get to school and back home lol... You will need one of those high vis strobe lights on your vest. Thanks for the video....

You should get yourself a pair of decent skis. That’s how people used to get around in those parts and you will get to work much faster than by walking.

What a lovely home you have made for yourselves worth all the hard work you both put in.

Just found your channel. We're an older couple who've retired to Sweden (Ytterhogdal) in April this year, and though we still have so much to learn, we know we've found a Home here. My wife spent most of her life smallholding and at times lived off grid. She'd love to do so again, so we compromise by doing things like rainwater harvesting, raised bed gardening (including in the glassed in porch which has turned into a greenhouse of sorts) and keeping the fireplace in good working order. We also realise we don't have enough firewood to last, but the price of firewood has risen sharply everywhere. My wife also plans to get hens and rabbits early next year. We both wish you all the best in what you're doing.

The old candelabrum is for counting in advents before Xmas, the first traditionally being lit on first of advent on Sunday 27th Nov, and then consecutively each Sunday after that until all are lit and it's Xmas within the week. Often ornamented with lingonberry plants and dried white moss. Also a great fire hazard.
As for walking in many minus, keep several layers of air and don't walk so fast that you sweat - which can be tricky in deep snow. If need be, put your hands in your armpits to keep warm and a balaclava or "skidmask" can be of great help for your head, neck and foremost your face.
Lovely video again.

Brilliant one Marie. Definitely a lovely walk in the morning, although bit different with banks of snow on each side. Can you just help yourself to the log piles on the roadside ? Take care Both. Keep loving the life x

Watching you walking to work Marie, gave me an idea after you mentioned about the hassle of cold engine starting. How about Ash get a moped to restore for his channel and then you could have an engine with no freezing coolant or worries about the cold. 10 minutes and you would be there, 50cc or about would use so little fuel too.

The wood might be a pain but at least you are self sufficient. Take the snow mobile to work

Snowmobile! Dirt cheap up north and tons of fun. You dont even need roads.

Great vlog Marie 👍 I'm guessing some of the roads will be cleared with a snow plough to make your walk a little easier? It's going to be an epic mission daily to get to work, make sure you have a good breakfast ( ha! You can tell I'm a Mum 🤣) and take all the precautions for your safety & warmth Xx At least you have warmth and comfort either side of your journey 💗 and yes those "Ash browns" looked super yummy 😋

Those hash browns looked quite good. Dark and crispy. What about skiing to work?

How much firewood do you need for the winter, 5 m3 or 10 m3, I'm just curious.

I was off the other channel, when Ash turned the barn Into what he wanted and the upper part a apartment. Not what you wanted. Your the one that works. As far as walking in Winter. I wouldn't.
