Hi, we are Harriet and Mauro and in February 2021 we bought an abandoned smallholding in Castellón, Spain. In these videos we share our life as we restore and improve our little stone house, learn to grow and preserve our own food, and bring our 4 acres of farmland back to productivity.

Hi Harriet! The key here is that you and Mauro have made a *choice*. So few of us actually do that, but instead assume that the way everyone does it is the only way. You've made it work in a most beautiful way that suits yourselves and serves the planet.

50 years ago now, my thesis in Architectural school was on How to design and build a self sustainable city. Your work to make a life full of living in harmony with your environment, off grid, peaks to my dreams so long ago. You put a long awaited smile on my face. I've lived long enough to see my dreams come true, at least on a scale of one growing family in Spain. Thanks! You two, soon to be three, are blessed.

Great informational video. I feel that you are helping a lot of people get the courage to try. I was thinking the folks who owned the land before you & Mauro would be so proud of how you two brought it back to life. Well done. A beautiful family farmstead, So proud for you two & proud of you too. Love, love, love this channel!!

Love this video! Thank you so much! We've been struggling looking at how/what to do with powering our Cortijo especially after receiving astronomical quotes for solar and/or grid connections.

Showing your solar setup and how you're able to top up with the generator if things get low is a HUUUUGGGEE help to us as we had no idea this was possible - Thanks 🙂

I have a five-year-old homestead, that I built myself. I now have a nice fruit orchard thanks to the information gleaned from you. You are the hardest-working woman I've ever seen. I live in the USA in Louisiana, just north of New Orleans about 68 miles. I love homesteading. Thanks for all the info.

Hi Harriet! I'm sure many people besides me would love to see your cooking recipes! Would you consider posting some? I'm still figuring out what to do with many vegetables!

In the mid-70s I lived off the grid in an old ghost copper mine town art commune/abandoned laundry on the Mexican border. LOL. "Solar" wasn't even a word then. Oh, so many things I see from then with what you're doing now.
This is just so very intriguing and really, really interesting. We know you guys are smart, well-prepared, and able but it really was nice kind of peeking behind the curtain. Y'all are going to be just fine. LOL. Better than fine! Much ❤ and 👍and 🙌🙌🙌.

If your property is typical windy, you could use a windmill for either pumping, or for power generation

I love the way you show your choices, and I way you make things work for you. When I was in my early twenties I used to live in squatted buildings in Amsterdam. Mostly much more primitive than the average person. I loved choosing my own direction and sharing a livestyle with others. It shaped my life and the way I do things still, even 40 years later. Seeing what you do sparks something similar in me. That’s also why I really love making the little set of clothes for your baby. ❤

Great video good information helpful for anyone who wants to live off grid. I’ve had horses chooks rabbits etc growing up and the work that goes with that, it’s good to see the technical side and how big a garden needs to be sustainable. You’ve both done really well and deserve a pat on the back. Good to see your baby bump growing children are a beautiful gift ❤

So much thought and a carefully orchestrated network of technicalities go into making your rural life both possible and comfortable !
As you say, it is not devoid of stresses, but no life is. At least you are healthier and feel far more in control than the average person stuck in the grind of standard city life.

Your videos give me so much hope. We have just moved to a village in Hungary after spending most of our lives in the capital. It is what we dreamed of and still the struggles of reality sometimes make me question if we are able to do this or if we are cut out for something like this. Whenever I hear you talk, and see you do your chores, I get hopeful. 2 things I would love to learn more about: how are you able to grow such amazing salads and greens (mine never turn out) and how exactly the composting side of the toilet works (how long does it take until you can use the waste as compost). Wishing you the best and thank you for the videos!:)

Hi!! I’m studying English and live in Carcaixent, a town near Valencia. I like your channel very much because I think your proyect is very interesting. I have never live in a farm or out of the town, but I think your example is very necessary because I think some of your ideas could implement in towns, like gardening or solar panels. And live without a tv. My 6 years old daughter wants to live like you, with animals and nature all around. We all send you a hug.

It's amazing to see what you have both achieved in just a short time. You have shown great courage in trying out new skills, I've learnt a lot watching you build & grow food on your land & you should both be super proud ❤
