AMD Radeon VII vs. GeForce RTX 2080 Gaming Benchmark Test
00:00 - Background info
01:26 - Strange Brigade
01:42 - Middle-earth: Shadow of War
01:56 - Assassin’s Creed Odyssey
02:12 - Forza Horizon 4
02:27 - Far Cry 5

Note: I think those results will be really close on what a future 1 to 1 comparison will show, they have to. Just for Far Cry 5 I am not that confident, but we will have to see about that.

Parkway Drive for the background music. Good choice

the only thing they did wrong was they made it just as exspendsive as a 2080

I REALLY want the R7 too be good but honestly, why would a gamer buy a VII/R7 over a RTX2080 if they had the same price ?

I do both gaming and content creation (Lightroom and Davinci Resolve). If I can get it next month at launch price of $700 with Resident Evil 2 thrown in, it will be a solid option for me. I'm now putting off the plan for a RTX2080 and canceling the RE2 Stream pre-order. I will to use the Radeon VII in my basement gaming rig for now. And by the time Ray Tracing becomes mature and Nvidia releases a new generation of RTX, I will transplant the Radeon into my workstation for content creation and get a new RTX for gaming.

Hope this plan works.

Strange that, Oddysey which was optimized for Ryzen and RAdeon gives more frame rates in 2080, rather than Radeon VII.

Navi is where it is at. Radeon 7 was a dead end architecture for Vega and more a test bed for 7nm process for Navi. Its the Navi 20 chiplet that will go in the apus that everyone should be excited about.

yeah these speak to me - I will pre-order that Radeon VII card. This is all i needed :)

So it boils down to what type of user it is? if your a gamer and a content creator RVII if your purely gaming and is really into the whole raytracing you'd go rtx 2080?

Hi Techepiphany, i am not 100%, are these benchmarks from 01:26 done in 4K or 1440p?

Please benchmark Radeon VII yourself against the RTX 2080 and RTX 2080Ti if you manage to get a sample. And BTW, your Vega 64 benchmarks show the GPU reaching around 1550-1600 MHz. I get to like 1700MHz with a bit of tuning... Maybe you can try and undervolt it & push the power target past 50% (registry edit) and push the clocks higher? It's true though - im watercooling my Vega 64 with a full waterblock afterall.

Cmon AMD we dont want a Fatboy and neither spend 750 euros for a card we want something in the midle with Good performance like Nvidia is doing with the 1660 and 1660 OC great prices and amazing performance at 1080 all Ultra most games run at 100-120 Fps very stable, even Rx590 Fatboy in my country costs 260 euros more expensive than 1660OC with 5% Less performance. Many guys like my are stucked in AMD because of the Monitors most are not 100% compatible nvidia cards.

Plus no one wants the 2080 anyway. Edit; No one is buying 2080s ergo no one wants the 2080 the 2070 is preferred. Though some will get the now already discounted 2060 most nVid fans are waiting for GTX 1660Ti. VII comes with 3 free games, brings it down ~$520 delivering real value for a 16GB 1TB/s 7nm card.

If they are smart they will price the VII at $700-800. Also the Benchmarks on Anandtech put the 2080TI about 20-25% ahead of the VII. So a $700-800 card would make sense also. You gotta compare both top tier cards here. Not sure why you went with the 2080 and not a Ti. It would be nice to have a card with this kind of performance at $700 ish and work. Unlike all the broken 2080's that were RMA'd. Competition is great. Ryzen lowered the prices of way over priced i7 lineup by $100-150. Can't wait for Zen2 and beyond.

I think the Radeon 7 will win in most of the Vulkan Games. And there aren't many of them

I had to decide recently between waiting for Vegarbage7, RMA 2080 or a used 1080ti FTW3 for 580€... took the 1080ti, and guess what, I think it beats the other 2 cards, 2 years old, best on air 1080ti... best buy I could have made, of course I was lucky finding one for that price but still, best buy, skip this gen unless you got money for the 2080 ti...

Nvidia got the ray traycing feature, i would go for this. But its good when AMd come's with a new good card, so the price will still fall :-)
