Today, we take the PowerEdge R620 that I picked up from @ServerMonkey and configure the iDRAC port. I typically setup the iDRAC port to update the BIOS, firmware and push out the operating system when I don't want to be inside the cold LAN room setting up the server. Once I'm done with the configuration I kill the connection and remote desktop into the server to continue the configuration. Please enjoy and be safe everyone 🤓

Hey man,
Few things to help you out with. Please don't take this as a rant or telling you want to do.
1) iDRACS should always be set on a static IP. ALWAYS! lol (you didn't need to set a DHCP at first)
2) Even if you did DHCP, why not just ping the IP to see if the IP is responding? lol
3) Best practice is to have your physical servers and VMs be on X subnet/vlan then your workstations, wireless, and IoT devices on a separate subnet/vlan (honestly all of those should have their own vlan and subnet to help distinguish what type of device they are by IP).
4) The R620 does work with Chrome. You need to go to the "settings" just above "launch" and change from Java to HTML5. Hit Apply and then you have Chrome support
5) Make sure you add it to the domain.

You should be able to configure it from the server by using Ctrl E then don’t need to worry about dhcp, what if the idrac was previously configured for static on another machine? Keep in mind I used idrac 6

Thank you. If you allow me to raise a question, I have R640 and when I power on the server the fans sound is high and the display shows colour bands not the normal texts. It shows no amber LED. Any help please?

I got this same server refurb for like 500. I use it with windows bc of school and have a bunch of different VMs on it. I love having all that power and would love to add sound and maybe even graphics down the road.

@BTNHD I don't get any link lights under the ethernet cable port connection to the iDRAC. When I'm in the iDRAC Settings under Network Settings-->NIC Selection: I only see LOM1 to LOM4. Any suggestions on what I need to do?

I've got an old Dell C6100 I what to move out to the garage for domestic harmony reasons, never messed with KVM-IP before, got a few questions about KVM-IP capabilities?
Can KVM-IP be used for power off, on, reboot?
What's the Video quality and lag time for static and video like?
Basically how does it compare to direct connection.

Thank you for the video. Do you need a license to access the IDrac in you own LAN? can con connect a regular ethernet cable? I plug mine but the light on the iDrac port dont turn on.
