It's much easier and faster to do this in the new 2023 version of VirtualBox, shut down your virtual machine, go to "settings" of your virtual machine, in the "storage" make a note of the (.vdi file) under controller, disconnect it, close off settings menu, go to "File" / "Virtual Media Manager" increase the size of the (.vdi file) you disconnected (using slider) then connect (.vdi file) back in your machine's settings. (You're basically skipping the Command-Prompt step where you have to manually type commands).

can you help me, i try this on kali linux virtual machine and it didnt work inside the linux machine, even after i check it using gparted, but in virtual box setting its works. how can i solve this?

Guys if your disk type is dynamic then don't try to expand it as command will not work because when you create VM you should select disk type to fixed type not dynamic. Only fixed type disk size can be increased else you have to reinstall the machine. @discover you please mentioned it in your description.
