hey what resolution was that file in and what format? Can a Pi3 play mp4 container to a single device without buffering every few seconds?? If not, I guess I can just change the settings to stream in 720.

Interesting that you show Casino Royale as that is the test DVD that I am trying to get working. I am using a trial version of Aimersoft to rip the DVD and I heard you say that the CR file is in AVI format. I'm going to try that next. I've tried several formats, none have worked with Rpi PMS.

I have a raspberry 2, should i upgrade to 3 ? My raspberry pi 2 is not powerful enough to stream some movies....

I want to set up a server that can transcode MKVs of DVD movies, using a Raspberry Pi 3 model B as the transcoder. How many simultaneous streams would that be able to run? I'm open to overclocking the processor
