I can't figure out how to make a stand alone plex media player on raspberry pi. I want to build a raspberry pi and connect an external hard drive and use the raspberry pi hdmi out connected to my tv to play the media on the hard drive.

Cant you have a pi with all the movies stored locally on a hard drive or something so you can play them locally instead of streaming?

Hey! Nice Video again. I was wondering: Could you not simply use a Google Chromecast in combination with the plex app for this?

Also, I would be interested in how you set up your server. Do you have a PC at home that is always running? Or is it enough to connect a external hard drive to your router?
