Thank you, been waiting for a review like this. This is a perfect solution for single use plex servers where users direct stream instead of transcoding

6:30 for the good stuff - no transcoding, but can do 5 local plays at a time

Hey! Love your vids. I've been using Plex forever and love how much it's grown. I went through all your videos and couldn't find a ripping guide. I know there are tons out there and I have my preferences too. Was hoping you could post your workflow and preferences to see I stack up. Keep up the great work!

I have a Pi4 on the way and this is just my use case, direct play single stream within my home network, nice to see it`s up to the task

I knew that the transcoding was going to be a problem as soon as I saw the title for the video. I think that we just need more Pi's clustered together. I do have a Shield but there are a few aggravating issues with it like access to storage (I'm not reinstalling SMB1 to get access), so this might be something that I would like to try. This new Pi is the best thing for home theatre since the Shield and the SSD. Small, quiet and cheap. No more huge towers to hide and noisy fans and HDs like we used to have to deal with.

I'm using Plex Server as plugin in OpenMediaVault on Raspberry Pi 4 2GB and it's amazing! =D. A 1TB external HDD (powered with adapter) is connected to the Pi 4 so plenty of space. The performace is better than I thougt and I like it. :)

My usecase for myself is a backup audiobook/music media server and direct play server with Pi allowing you to keep your main computer hibernating and not running up your electric bill when your out of the house, with your full transcode server on your PC you can wakeup your computer remotely if you need the full capability.

I'd love to know if it could manage more than one 4K direct play streams

Nice video! What would you suggest as a step for this for 3 -4 transcoded streams?

Hello did you put your Plex transcode directory on the usb disk (faster) or the Microssd .

Did you pre optimise the movie files for use on ras pi as I'm using raspi 3B+ and a USB 2tb hdd. Non HD play fine but HD content struggles. Yet kodi plays them all fine

Trying to use this to host videos (movies and mp4) on my local network. Will this work? I'd like to use the built in wifi of the Raspberry Pi so I dont have to put this right near my velop

Great work. I spend my pas weekend playing around these as well. Can you try the same with Jetson Nano and maybe even check if hardware acceleration is possible?

What about direct stream 1080p on 2 stream at same time ?

Might be worth an update to this video now that there is a 8GB ram model, and the pi takes overclocking quite well with something like the Ice Tower cooler. I've seen 2.2Ghz achieved. I wonder if that could help transcoding plays.

I'm new to this. When you say transcode, are you refering to playing into other device? And direct play meaning playing into the Raspberry Pi? I want to use the Raspberry Pi as a server so I can play movies and TV shows on my Xbox in another room. But that's it, I'm not gonna be doing multiple streaming or anything like that.
