💢💢 Top 5 Down Jackets for Men of 2021 💢💢

👉 #1: Top Overall Down Jacket For Men: The North Face Summit

Built for performance, this 800 fill down jacket boasts five pockets — including an external chest pocket for stashing those essentials that necessitate easy access. The tapered fit is perfect for layering underneath while providing plenty of movement through the shoulders. The extended torso allows this jacket to fit nicely under harnesses or hip belts, as well, adding an additional application."

What I like most about this jacket is the hydrophobic treated down used in construction, which serves to help repel water in wet conditions.

What I care less for about this jacket is its weight and bulk. It’s not designed to be packed small enough for carrying on extended or lightweight adventures.

----

👉 #2: Best Budget Choice: REI Co-op 650 2.0

Weighing in at only 10 ounces, this jacket is light on both your back AND your wallet. The light weight comes from using 650 fill power down combined with lightweight shell materials, which does make this jacket slightly less durable than others on this list. It’s tailored for a loose fit, making this jacket cozy but difficult to layer over.

What I like most about the 650 2.0 are the internal stash pockets, perfect for stashing gloves or a cell phone.

What I don’t care for is that due to the lower quality down used in construction, this jacket’s warmth to weight ratio is lower than others on this list.

----

👉 #3: Best Lightweight Pick: Mountain Hardware Ghost Whisperer 2

Not only does this jacket provide for a decent level of warmth in a 8.5 ounce package, but it’s also highly compressible. Mountain Hardwear beefed up sustainability this year, sourcing ethical down and using recycled nylon for the shell. The Ghost Whisperer features a no-frills design, including two hand pockets and a hem cinch.

What I like most about this jacket is the tailored athletic fit that allows me to move around really freely.

What I don’t care is the small zipper that is difficult to operate with gloves on.

----

👉 #4: Best For Adventuring In Bad Weather: Rab Valiance

The brand is based out of the UK, so Rab’s pretty familiar with designing apparel meant to withstand the elements. The Valiance features 800 down fill warmth and a waterproof outer shell. Simple features like helmet compatibility and oversized drawstrings for easy glove access make this the ideal jacket on cold weather trips.

What I like most about the Rab Valiance are the fully taped seams, which contributes to its complete protection from the weather.

What I don’t care as much about the Valiance is that it’s not designed to breathe well, so it’s not ideal for highly aerobic adventures except for in the coldest of conditions.

----

👉 #5: Most Sustainably Crafted: Rab Microlight Alpine

Excellent at repelling water, this jacket is designed for light and fast expeditions and serves as a great choice for shoulder season cragging and hiking. The weather resistance offered by this jacket combined with a 700 fill down gives you all the protection you need. Features include five pockets, hood cinches, hem cinches, and other thoughtful extras, like fleece around the face.

What I like most about the Microlight Alpine is the push to use recycled down and the more sustainable water resistance treatment Rab applied compared to others in its class.

What I don’t care for about this jacket is that due to using a lower quality down, this jacket does not compress as well as others on this list.

Marmot is always on my list for outerwear, best value to quality ratio for down jackets IMO.🤘😎👍
