Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Review - 7 Months Later!

On paper, you can call the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra an iterative upgrade because you won't see many changes here. I mean the design is basically the same and even the internal components are the usual year-over-year upgrades but when you actually start using the phone, you realize that Galaxy S23 Ultra isn't just an annual refresh but perhaps the biggest upgrade the Ultra phone got in recent years.

I dropped my S23 ultra on concrete today at work. Thankfully I had a case and a whitestone dome glass screen protector installed. Not a scratch on the phone.

The S22 Ultra (Exynos) was so bad that I had no choice but to upgrade to another phone. Since the S23 series came with Snapdragon worldwide I gave Samsung one more chance. And it was a really great upgrade. Samsung will have a really hard time selling me another Exynos-based phone ever again.

Have to agree the S23 Ultra is an unreal phone and it definitely feels like a bigger jump year over year than what we usually see. What a lot of people don't mention is the much better speakers vs the S22 Ultra. Got to the point where I wouldn't even listen to music at all on last year's phone if I didn't have my ear buds with me, the sound was atrocious. Another huge improvement that isn't mentioned much is the new Qualcomm X70 modem with built-in AI. it helps get much better reception and helps extend battery life at the same time with faster 5G speeds. Bumping up to the faster 5X RAM and 4.0 UFS storage makes a huge different when using multiple applications and moving around your phone quickly not to mention gaming. This is the first phone I'm considering keeping for 2 years but we'll see if the S24 Ultra is a big enough improvement to upgrade. I have my doubts

Just upgraded from the S22 to the S23 and some people say the differences aren't big enough, but you are right that the battery and the processing power feel like a huge jump from the S22. My S22 was constantly needing charged and had lots of stutter/slowdown that I don't seem to have with the S23.

I upgraded my phone from S10 plus to S23 Ultra. It's a worth upgrade. Day and night difference between S10 plus and S23 Ultra in every aspect.

45 watt charging is the only deal breaker but it sure is at this hefty asking price., especially considering the competition. Once you go above 100 watt there is no going back to 45 or below. Fast charge is a blessing from my exp.

I got this phone a few weeks ago for a great discount, and finally upgraded from my S9+ exynos. Yeah, you can imagine how bad a 5+ year old exynos phone is to use in 2023.... but hey, I got a good run out of it!

I have the same opinion about S23 Ultra as you. Recently, I recorded a concert in low light enviroment and it was amazing. Samsung did a great job about it. Pictures also look astonishing. Many people told me that pictures look fantastic and ask me what phone I use. I say S23 Ultra off course. Great phone.

well, a compact but very detailed review of one of the best phones of 2023. for me the whole s23 lineup deserves an award. not only the flawless hardware but also the beauty of every single device. on top, Samsung was able to shrink the camera problem via update to a bare minimum. same with the lagging animations. even the fingerprint reader works perfectly since the August patch is installed. soft and hardware like i couldn't be happier atm with my s23. my hopes for the s24 lineup: a Snapdragon setup for all 3 devices, worldwide!! Samsung can put the Exynos SoC's in the Fan Editions and A Class but pls, not in the flagship lineup! FE's and A Class devices where most ppl don't care about the SoC should be ok with Exynos. next year, for the base and plus model i don't want a overlooked snap. the heat which my s23 sometimes unfolds is very annoying. i don't want that in my s24. for the s24 Ultra a overlooked chip is ok for me bec of much better cooling. besides that i have no wishes for next year.

Just upgraded from a note 8. Man what a difference. Worth it 100%. Especially now that i get a snapdragon chip. Its just so much better.
My main issue was battery life. I had to keep my note 8 in permanant power saving mode and still had to charge it about 3 or 4 times a day of general use. I had to keep a charger with me where ever i went. As soon as it hit 20% battery left it just instantly died.

Right now, on my s23 ultra, it is 10pm. I took it off charge last at 7am. It is at 70% battery. Just wow.

I'm enjoying my S23 Ultra. Still not my all time Samsung's favourite but it's definitely the boss this year. S22 Ultra at its current price and though it falls only slightly behind in some aspects it offers better value for money.
