Coastal Redwood Fungi b/w 'Touch My Perithecium'

Показать описание
Alan Rockefeller and I spend a few hours traipsing through a stand of coastal redwoods and tanbark oak on a cool January afternoon to see what's popping up from the duff and the hillsides. we see the mycorrhizal and delicious Craterellus calicornucopioides, as well as the incredibly vivid red Hygrocybe coccinea. The black earth-tongue - Trichoglossum - is tiny but extremely bizarre. And then we learn what a perithecium is with the aid of Annulohypoxylon.

Your contributions support this content. It sounds clichéd, but it's true. Whether it's travel expenses, vehicle repair, or medical costs for urushiol poisoning (or rockfalls, beestings, hand slices, toxic sap, etc), your financial support allows this content to continue so the beauty of Earth's flora can be made accessible to the rest of us in the degenerate public. At a time when so much is disappearing beneath the human footprint, CPBBD is willing to do whatever it takes to document these plant species and the ecological communities they are a part of before they're gone for good.

The juxtaposition between Joey and Alan's personalities is hilarious. I love them both

Love it when Alan gets a question from Joey and can't give him an answer, just says "I don't know" or "I have no idea", no pretending to know everything, no bullshit. A rare trait amongst experts these days.

Cool video for someone more of a botany than a fungus guy. My soul was touched when Alan told me to GFY. Thank both of you for sharing of your wonderful stores of knowledge!

my brain exploded. It blows me away how Alan just rattles off those names. I dont know why but these fungal vids are like some kind of great drug for me: got to come back to this one a few more times just to try to digest more of it while my brain explodes just a little more. Thanks so much to the both of you for this series.

I respect someone who says idk when asked something they don't know, cuz when you run into someone that knows everything, ya know they don't know & then you just wonder what they actually knew

Joey you are the only youtuber out there who just simply films himself walking around and looking at plants and mushrooms. Thank you for all you do. When I can't be out doing it myself your videos are the second best thing.

Thank you so much for putting the name written on the screen. Helps heaps in learning how to say the latin words, and connecting the verbal to the written. Excellent video, and amazed at how similar fungi are found in NZ forests, even though not a redwood in site, but very similar fungi. Most likely different species due to distance / genetic drift etc. But visually very similar and same genus etc.

Come to Santa Cruz for a bit. You will love the seedy underculture that thrives here... Plus we have many fungi and fungi lovers here, so much so that I once came across a fenced off Bolete patch like a clandestine pot grow in the middle of the woods complete with no tress passing signs and all!

4:10 - Vespertine' means active in the evening/dusk. Similar to 'crepuscular', which is active at dawn and dusk.

Looking outside at a few feet of snow, this video transports me to the forest in the spring.
