The Alfred: A True Entry Level to High Horology #VP97

It can be difficult for a high horology watch company to have an entry level watch, costing thousands of dollars less than their general line of watches. However Urban Jürgensen has managed to do exactly that with ‘The Alfred'

This is the short attention span theater my dad has told me about my whole life. Well he's never lied. Great channel

Love the contrast between the very simple dial and the highly finished movement. A lovely understated watch.

I own the 40mm, Bill. It's a perfect daily wearer for my needs. Steel case and everything. Or change the strap and you have something way more formal. And you can always take a look through the caseback to reassure yourself that this piece is top notch.
I still love my calendar complications, but The Alfred is the sort of watch that makes you take a look at your collection and wonder if you really need any other watch. It's a dangerous watch to a collection that thinks it's found a cosy and lifelong home in your safe.

One Alfred and maybe a G-shock to do the dirty work, and you could be good to go.

Atb to you and your viewers and greetings from Denmark -My nationality of course makes me a little biased to the UJS brand ;-)

Thanks for featuring another hidden gem Bill. Your video sent me to the Jurgensen website and I really like the look of their sports watch on a bracelet. But I recently ordered a VC Overseas and should have it by June. After that my grail is a bespoke Gronefeld Principia. I think I can pull that off by year’s end, provided I do not stray into unforeseen temptations like the Alfred. I’ll try hard to control myself. Thanks for yet another gem of a video Bill.

Not a brand that I ever noticed before you showed your new one
Just a uncluttered and attractive dial, fantastic hands, pocket watch style. Very attractive case classically done. Over the top first class movement and you can see it. You found another hidden gem.
Very interesting, Thanks Bill.

I don't usually like dressy watches. It just doesn't fit my scooter riding, hot and high humidity lifestyle ... not a moon phase fan, so the silver appeals to me. Rainy season has started here in Saigon, so am wearing my waterproof watches now. I also watched your state-of-the-collection video. I still like your Resonance best, but if you need me to test your Easy Diver, just send it over and I'll give you my honest opinion .... Great programming Bill ... Cheers

Hand grenade range! LOL. I love it. Thanks for that. And I have to agree that this is exceptional horologie. Talk about a "value proposition".

Great highlight on a watch I've never seen before!

Thank you so much for sharing. As ever, an education. I wasn't aware of the Alfred in 40mm, but it could be something I'm looking for - superb, hand-wind movement, beautiful craftsmanship in both movement and dial and a great, classic, simple design. Those hands - wow! Echos of Breguet (who I see the early Jurgensen worked with). As you say, 'within a hand grenade' price wise! I'd far rather pay for design, engineering and craft than logo and precious metal. A potential upscale complement to my Habring2!

Thank you. You have a new subscriber. The kind of watches you feature and review are the kind of watches I like.

Absolutely love the Alfred. This has been on my radar for a while. UJ is a brand that doesn’t get enough love!

I've got a Raymond Weil office watch, which looks similar to the Alfred. So I'm going to wear it and fool myself that I've got an Alfred.

Hi Bill..great watches..with interesting dial features..the Grenage dial would I think complement the new Tudor BB58 925 silver..and raise the level. Not so sure about the taupe colour they have gone for. Will need to see it in person.. 🤔..great chat as usual..👍

The free sprung balance in that movement also adds to its value, IMO. Nice review and agree it is a good deal.

Beautiful watch and the hour hand looks awesome. That watch would be even more perfect in a 38 mm instead of 40 mm, in my opinion.

Great video Bill, another one that’s flown under my radar, some beautiful detail. Just checked, two agents in the UK, one in Edinburgh and the other in the Burlington Arcade in London although if you order direct you can go to Biel, Switzerland to pick it up in person

Excellent segment!👍
Technically this watch is superb & movement is flexible to always higher standards!👌❤️, I’ ll stay in the low low budget department & keep buying ETA based watches 😢.
Have to go: it frying pan time 🍳
Stay safe,
John
