3D Printing: Monoprice Select Mini Glass Bed Installation

Here’s a super quick and easy tutorial on how to add a glass bed to the Monoprice Select Mini 3D Printer.

This is a super simple and fun upgrade for anyone who’s looking to modify or adapt the printer to meet more specific needs.

A glass print bed is a great way to ensure a perfectly even and level print surface. This was important to me after my 2nd MP Mini came with a slightly concave bed.

PLEASE be careful when cutting glass. Use gloves and safety glasses at all times when dealing with glass.

Hopefully this tutorial is clear and easy, but if there's anything I didn't answer, feel free to ask!

Loved it, Tom! You're ahead of the curve with these 3D printer videos. I think they'll be mainstream in the next decade.

amazing editing as usual! I don’t actually have my own 3D printer, but we have 10 at school. I’m hoping to use them more often.

Wow, this is awesome. the whole 3d printing world is so interesting. Is there a way to make a usable plate? something thats not plastic-y? What could your print for the kitchen?

I struggled for a (long) while with the Z height, thinking how to move the Zmin limit switch... Instead, a much simpler ideea is with this H shaped spacer. Amazingly simple, my printer reborn :-)

When cutting glass a TINY bit of oil along the line you are scoring/cutting will reduce the small particles of glass dust from flying everywhere .

Amazon actually stock a perfect piece of glass for this. I've just bought one. It has perfectly cut and sanded glass with a bevelled edge.

Ya, the clip is fully functional, just need to thicken it up as the height for some reason increased. Just strange it made 2 good prints when I first put it all together...

I had to return mine for the same reason.

Does installing a glass bed decrease the maximum print height? If so can you just temporarily remove it for a print requiring the extra height? Great video like always!

Late to this video but, do I have to make the spacer as thick as my glass? Or it doesn't matter? Is the auto leveling working with the glass? Best regards.

Great video! I recently performed this upgrade on my mini and I have a question about the glue. I noticed that my print contains an "imprint" of the glue pattern (spread on the glass). Is this something you've encountered and how did (or would) you resolve?

Hi tom buck! I loved your video! I need help on one thing though. I don't know how to remove the black metal sheet. I've seen other videos of taking that off, then using Goo Gone and scraping the glue off the bed with the plastic scrapper. How did you do it?

Went to print soft motor mounts and the nozzle is acting like I didnt add the spacer. I triple checked and the spacer is snapped in good, glass bed is mounted using the binder clips that you suggested (wifes work had a few extras I could borrow :) Can you think of why it would be doing this?
THanks!

Is this for the v1 printer? Also, can you explain more about what the z spacer does?

I haven't dug into the thickness of the z-spacer in the thingiverse file. Is the thickness of the spacer in the file supposed to match the thickness of the glass pane you install? Your video shows 3/32" thick glass. What thickness was your spacer?

I'm having issues with the clips hitting the horizontal x bar in the back and my moded fans in the front.

Hey Tom,

Have you looked at the wires connecting your heat bed? I had to replace mine, and apparently it happens to everyone if you use them enough.
