One of my favorite books is called The Gurus, The Young Man, and Elder Paisios! The author does an awesome job showing the reader the differences between Eastern Religions (things like Buddhism and practicing yoga) and Eastern Orthodox Christianity. He really demonstrates his experience with energies that are from God and not from God. Beautiful book!

It wasn't the theological or historical arguments that convinced me the truth of Orthodoxy but rather the practical spiritual tradition of fighting the passions. St Paisios' Spiritual Counsels and the Guru, the Young Man, and Elder Paisios helped me more than I know.

There is very good movie about St Luke of Crimea but it's in Russian..

I’m lukewarm in my Orthodoxy right now. I’m trying to get back into it on a weekly basis. I raised and baptized my two daughters into it. Neither one goes to church or has any interest in Orthodoxy as adults. It’s very sad to me and I also don’t like to go to church alone. Once I get there I do feel much better! I never knew of orthodoxy till I read the Protestant bible cover to cover, 2 times . NT 3 times and had so many disagreements with the pentacostal church that I was at and I searched for something new and found orthodoxy agreed with all of the views I believed by scripture on my own ! Hi Gregory! I’m a Protestant convert attending Divine Liturgy for a year now. I’m yet to be Baptised. Like you I love books and have a big Orthodox library. Agree prayer book first! The book that has helped me the most to enter the Orthodox mind is Wounded By Love by Saint Porphyrios.

I love St Augustine’s work as well. “Confessions” and “Spirit and the Letter” sum up the Christian faith perfectly. Repentance, God’s great mercy and the fulfillment of the Law out of love

Really, although I’m quite new to Orthodoxy and this is a bit elementary, St. Athanasius’s _On the Incarnation_ is breathtaking. Easily the greatest book I’ve read from a Saint thus far. Something else, which really isn’t a book but is still important, is the Life of St. Sisoes the Great which I read on OCA’s website. He literally changed my life and outlook on things.
