Updated blood donation rules make more LGBTQ+ donors eligible

As of August 2023, more members of the LGBTQ+ community can give blood to help save the lives of patients nationwide, thanks to new safety guidelines from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration being implemented by local blood agencies.

Dr Robertson Davenport, director of the Blood Bank at University of Michigan Health, part of Michigan Medicine, welcomes the change.
